Hood Support Rod and Anchor Clip Grommet -- How to reinstall? [SOLVED]

Vehicle: 2007 Nissan Quest
Problem: Hood Support Rod broken off from Anchor Clip Grommet

I ordered a replacement Anchor Clip Grommet but now I'm having troubles sliding the rod into it; the grommet is unable to slide around the sharp bend of the rod.

Does one have to bend the rod's end straight before sliding the grommet into place? I'm unable to slide it down the opposite end of the rod as there are several items fixed into place making it impossible. The grommet must slide one from this one end. I've tried adding lube but it still feels like if i press to hard the grommet will break.

I have had to do this before (many years ago) and have had good luck just forcing it around the bend. The rod is designed for the anchor to be difficult to get on because, in turn, it is difficult for the rod to accidentally slip out of the grommet - which is what you want. If it's a nylon anchor, it should withstand the pressure of installation.

Question: are the opposing sides of the anchor's hole identically sculpted? It is possible that it must go on in one direction.
I always upvote respectful/helpful posts wherever I encounter them.

Thanks for the prompt response.

The opposing sides are identical. I will give it a shot in brute force shoving it on ;P

And you, sir, are correct. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
