Shipping is $125 each.... they have a whole server sale promotion going on this entire week here, RFD link:

If you need a rack mounted server, the 1U PowerEdge R300 for $699 is a pretty good deal. It has a Core 2 Duo E6305, 2 x 160GB hard drives, 1GB RAM, dual gigabit, and a 3-year warranty. You also have to pay the $125 shipping on that one but again, it's good if you need a rack server and the 3 year warranty is great for businesses. If you don't need the bezel (plastic front cover), you can save another $20.

Cheesy picture:

That's a great deal for a typical SMB. Thanks D.

Yes, it stinks how a so called "server" runs on a Celeron CPU? LOL
With no redundancy on any components, and the crappy CPU, this is no way even close to a server. Com'on

If anyone is looking for a real server, go for the HP Proliant's/Blade. That's the real server you would want for your company.

Can someone explain the difference between a personal computer and a server? What does the server have that makes it superior for what servers do?

It just seems like a 400$ or so computer with vastly better specs would seriously out perform this machine.

well, this isnt really a server, i would classify it as an uncomplete computer

server in my opinion would have high processor speed but more importantly cache, high amount of ram, lots of harddrive space, fast, in raid format usually, probably 10Krpm
i use linux fedora core for server, not into windows much, and i use command-line so i save on physical ram that any gui uses.
usually grafx card isnt needed, or just anything for the case you might need to use a monitor, but i use ssh from another computer if need to connect

oh and if its an intel, i recommend XEON :)

Also upgrade to 2GB RAM for $319.

Shipping still kills the deal for me though.
