How does price match for airline tickets work?

Many airlines and OTAs claim you can price match tickets.

But how would it work in practice? Prices change all the time. How do I prove the price was $xx when I checked?

Has anyone tried price-matching and has experience with this? Whenever I am booking and find a low price and want to match it with the airline, I fear it might go up and then just book anyway.

I know of no airlines or agencies that price match for tickets, or advertise that they price match. Or if they do, it will be for a specific time frame, ie, withn 24 hours of your purchase.
Airline ticket prices fluctuate so much it would b foolish for anyone to make an offer like that.

Airlines do not price match to competitors.
Example:
Toronto - Montreal Air Canada is $450 but Westjet has it for $425

Airlines (some/ very few... as another poster mentioned Emirates) price match with online agencies
Example:
Emirates website Toronto - Dubai is $1500
Expedia is $1475
**usually the fine print is that it has to be a “published fare” (meaning anyone has access to this) and the fare class/ class of service / flight numbers must be the same. Some online agencies have net fares that are exclusive so likely nobody would price match**

OTA’s price match policy has similar elements to what I mention above ^^ but really truly varies.

Price match and price guarantee are two completely different things.

Edit: Upon looking at your link it does seem like Emirates is a price match but it does clearly state how it works so I'm not too sure what you're asking for.
