I think its to low end, I think you should spend a bit more and get something a bit better.

It's refurbished. I was looking at something that is brand new.

SICKCARS, thank you for posting the link to that ASUS laptop! I think I might go for it.

What is your opinion of refurbished laptops? I've never bought one and am not sure what to expect. Is it common for a refurbished laptop to fail after the 90-day warranty period?

You're going to get way better bang for buck going the refurbished route. Check the hot deals section for IBM refurbs and be on lookout for one with a HD+ display.

stop right there, as this thing is absolute junk and is so slow you won't believe it. like "old single-core netbook slow".
