How to reframe after removing one stud

I had to remove a vertical stud at the end of a framed wall in my basement to repair a crack in the foundation. The stud had been nailed from the top and bottom. I don't want to take down the whole frame just to put that stud back in place. What are my options?
Can I use screws to toe-nail the replaced stud in place? If so, what size/type of screws can I use? (is 3" construction screws ok?)
I don't plan to get a building permit or anything like that, but I also want to do it right.
