How to Repair Torn Drywall Paper
I'm glad I googled it before I did this, but I just assumed you could use drywall compound to repair torn drywall paper. Turns out you need to prime/seal it first, but I am reading conflicting information on what to use to seal it.
Some youtube videos specifically say not to use water based primer (latex) which I have a lot of. Others state to use shellac or oil based primer and then compound over top.
Any suggestions?
Should I get something like this

or this
