How to sell shares from company I used to work for?

Hello all,

I used to work at Tim Hortons. I signed up for the employee share program when I used to work there and they automatically took out money from my check to purchase company shares.

I no longer work there and I now have 85 shares in the company via ComputerShare and I am not sure how to cash it out. The ComputerShare website does not give much information. Can somebody please let me know how to cash out these shares?

Is there a number for you to contact Computershare? Call them and tell them you want to sell the stock and send the cheque. Thats what I did for my company stock.

Is this in your RRSP as most ESOP plans are? If so, transfer it in cash over to another RRSP account that way it isn't taxable and you can purchase another security with it.

Using Computershare, you should be able to sell online. Click on the "select action" tab and there should be a sell shares option. If you don't see this, try logging again under United States as country and see if that it preventing you from accessing a sale. This won't work if they are shares that are Direct Registration Shares but are administered by Tim Hortons, so keep this in mind.

If you want to do it by paper, go under Statements and Documents. Look up the last Statement for Restaurant Brands. You should see a sell shares part of the statement that you can print, sign and mail away.

Keep in mind there are fees generally to do a sale. Also, you will need to declare any capital gains from this sale on your taxes
