How tinted is your car? And have you gotten pulled over? Share your stories.

Hi Fam,


I'm thinking of getting my 2-door coupe tinted, have looked at various boards to see what a good % is to get tinted.


I live in Ontario and obviously there are no restrictions to the rear window being tinted (although I may opt to get the same % all around), what do you guys have on your side windows?


I have read 35% on the sides is the norm and then about 23% on the back. Can you guys let me know what your experiences are? I don't want to go too dark that I get pulled over (considering my car is an Acura as well)

I have 2 that are 35% all the way around, 2 that are 20%, and 2 that are 28%. Never pulled over in Ontario for tint. BC cops are nazis when it comes to tint, got pulled over 3 times in 13 months. Pulled over twice in Alberta over 15 months.

Ontario cops don't really care from my experience.

30% all around and never been pulled over. I also know people that have 15% all around and have never been pulled over either.

There's a nekky trend amounst the truck demographic to tint the upper and lower portion of the windshield and just leave a 8 inch untinted portion that runs the width of the windshield to see through....

REASON: 16:3 ratio.

I don't get..

Two vehicles at 20% and one at 35% (all around). Once pulled over (@20% vehicle) but no tickets for the tinted windows. The trick with the darker windows is I leave the moonroof interior panel open to allow additional light inside the cabin.

20% front and 5% rear on my SUV. IMO, def way too dark in the front but I've been lazy and haven't gone to change the fronts to 35%.

35% all the way around for my other car.

Never been pulled over for tints. I think being pulled over also depends on the body color of your car. Having 20% on a dark colored car is a lot less noticeable than having it on a white car.

Yea had 35% on my old car. Found it too light so now have 20% on my new car.... Love it. As long as you don't draw attention to yourself the cops don't interfere..
oh and I second the leave the sunroof open. My car has the panoramic roof so lots of light coming in.

I have either 15 or 20% (can't remember) all around on my cherokee, never been hassled. During the day you can barely see in it and at night you can't see the inside from the outside at all

I have a 80% tint and no problem. If you're scared you can get away with a bar at the top though

30% all around on a white coupe. Never been hassled for tint; not even when I got pulled over for speeding.

Thanks for all the replies in this thread.

I'm thinking of going Around 28-30% all around and not sure what to do with the windshield.

35% seems pretty light but 28-30% seems like I would have no problem and the car would still be tinted.
