[HP] [HP] 14" FHD Ryzen 7 5700U 16GB RAM 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD $794+tax

HP has this 14" laptop with FHD screen, Ryzen 7 5700U 16GB RAM and 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD for $869. There is $75 of $350 coupon available, 75HP350 which makes it $794+Tax.
Display is mediocre, 1920X1080 at 250nits, but if this is for indoor use, sounds like a good option.

Any feedback?

Catch 1: Display. I have 400 nits ThinkPad and I sometime feel that's not enough when in sunlight. Display resolution is also no Excellent. It's a fine display

Catch 2: HP brand. Personally I had bad experience with HP laptop. Doesn't last longer. (Overheating, cheap material etc). So decided never to buy HP laptop.

Not sure if they are better now

But its a good deal.

Price is good and has lots of RAM and storage.

battery is on the weak side but the laptop is not any lighter than competitors.

no touchscreen for those who want it.

Standard office screen, not for content creation. - FHD (1920 x 1080), IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, 250 nits, 45% NTSC

The deal-breaker for me on these laptops is the low nits (brightness) of their screens, it has gotten easy to find a laptop with decent spec at a fair price but the screens are too dim and of low quality compared to the premium versions.

Great value for the core specs (cpu/ram/hd), but as noted above, some compromises elsewhere to hit the price point (batt/screen etc.).
All comes down to your needs.

I recently got a budget HP laptop, lots of cheap plastic, by no means strong or sturdy. But as long as it's cared for and not thrown around, it should be just fine. I'm generally anti-HP (and Toshiba, Sony, others) for laptops... and yet I've bought two in the last 6 months lol

HP Spectre is amazing. Again, like most products (ex Apple), you get what you pay for.

That said, 250nits is very low.

I think the USB-C port doesn't deliver display, if that is a concern... but that price, could be worth it.

It's a real shit chassis.

HP is using this same chassis on their low end stuff.

On my 300$ laptop (Intel 7505, 4GB, 128GB) I can forgive the cheap build, but when you approach this price range, it starts to get iffy.

In my experience, cheap dells and Lenovos have survived much better than cheap hp. No issues with our old Inspiron and ancient think pad, but 2 year old hp build quality was terrible. Faulty hinge, screen separating from bezel etc. Worse keypad (subjective though).

With that and the couple hp printers we used to have, we have sworn off anything hp unless it’s very high end, and at that point we have other very good options anyways.

So yeah imo biggest catch is this is hp for cheap.

HP is dumping overstock since ryzen 6000 series laptop cpu will be available in the next few days.

Like a lot other mentioned, I would never use a HP even if it was given to me.

Bought one and I had 3 recall on it

then I got one from work (Probook), it was really heavy, battery life was non existant and it was heating up /throttling pretty bad.

Never again

With so many folks chiming in with their poor experience with HP, I would pass on this one. Display is not a concern for me since it would be used indoors, but if build quality itself is poor, I definitely wouldn't spend on it. I need it for long term. Thank you all for your valuable feedback.

Its a tempting deal, but I have a motto:

Also note that 5700U and 5500U are older Zen 2 CPU cores. (5800U and 5600U are Zen 3.)
