A heads up for those who are looking to churn this one: there's a claw back clause in the agreement where if you don't keep the account open for one year, they will demand repayment of the cash bonus

The GIC rates are surprisingly quite awful, but I guess it beats parking it for 1.5 years and making no interest. I was initially interested in referring my family members, but I won't bother. But with the 1.9% GIC and the referral, I'll make 10% on my deposit, which is pretty good

Still locked with the last promo. Besides, it takes about 2 months to get credited if something doesn't go through automatically.

Signed up last year through this promo...have to say the same as others on this thread. It’s quite a pain to deal with them both in branch and over the phone but once everything is set up, it works pretty well. Also, the perks of having international access to HSBC ATMs is useful too. I found the rate at the HSBC in Hong Kong to be almost exactly the floating rate...they do have quite a large presence overseas.

Anybody sign up for the chequing account under their Newcomer program? If so, does the amount deposited into the account need to be maintained for certain time or no? TIA

You have to keep $10000 until you get $500 bonus and then you can withdraw your money but you have to keep your account active for one year from the month you get $500 bonus.

Great offer if you can find an existing HSBC member to refer you, which people would be more inclined to do if the referral process wasn't so stupid.

The T&C's are different under the "Newcomer" program, so I don't think you need to hold out until you get the bonus. It makes sense if you're opening the account under regular circumstances

If anyone is looking to advantage, just keep in mind HSBC (I believe it's a public offer) also has a 3.00% bonus savings promo until mid September 2019.
Could not find it, can you post the link?
