I did this last Sept (still holding the Advance Chequing account) and it's pretty good. But please note the following:

The welcome bonus will vary according to the opened HSBC Chequing Account: HSBC Premier Chequing Account, welcome bonus is $500; (ii) HSBC Advance Chequing Account, welcome bonus is $300 and; (iii) HSBC Personal Chequing Account, welcome bonus is $100.

You can also get extra $350 / $100 (Premier / Advance) by signing up through a referral - the HSBC STEP program.

https://www.hsbc.ca/share-the-experience/

Maximum welcome bonus on Advance chequing is
$300 for opening chequing
$100 via referral from another Advance
$100 for direct deposit
$50 credit card rewards (EDIT: For non-premier credit cards it says $50 cashback rebate or 5,000 points for HSBC Advance MC or HSBC MC)
Total $550

Maximum welcome bonus on Premier chequing is
$500 for opening chequing
$350 via referral from another Premier
$100 for direct deposit
$100 credit card rewards for premier credit cards.
Total $1050
one has to keep minimum 25K in the account for holding the premier status? that's quite a bit money for most people to hold idle to get 1K return, 4%, not too high.

Actually, according to the pic, it looks like it's $5k unless I missed something

Hmmm, I was playing around with the site, it seems that the t&c are different when you choose “I am canadian” or “I am new to Canada”...

How about the Advanced chequing? You only have to hold $5K in there over 14-15 months to return $550, about 8-9% after tax, and you get to earn interest (GIC) on the $5K.

which one is better?
You cannot choose the better one I assume.

If you are canadian you can only apply under the second program.

If you are new immigrant, you can only apply under the fist program.

This is a HSBC thread tho.

Scotiabank bonus will be paid after two months fulfilling the requirements.

If one want to sign up for Jade, does the refer have to be a jade holder as well to get $1000 each, if a new jade account is referred by a premier then only $350 each?
Reading the terms and conditions, any HSBC customer can refer another customer to Jade. If the person being referred qualifies as Jade after the first 6 months, then both should get the $1000 gift. At least, that is how I read it.

https://www.hsbc.ca/content/dam/hsbc/ca ... ons-en.pdf
a) Following a successful referral(s) (see Sections 5(e) and 5(f) above), the Customer and the Referee will be eligible to receive a Gift in accordance with the following:
...
iv) For each successful HSBC Jade referral made, the Customer and the individual Referee will receive: a cash deposit into their HSBC chequing account worth $1000 CAD.

Is there monthly fee for opening checking account? What credit cards offer no annual fee.

You get money right away?

Thinking of doing this since I'm with TD...

Nice to spend this on nice coffee machine and head phones

they got credit cards that have no annual fee.
But they are not that great. Like 1% cash back.
Their travel credit card is better, as they have $100 for you to spend on travel on addition to the usual points
but there are no first year free at the moment
you can waive the fee if you hold 5000 for advance or 100000 for premier account

I opened advanced account last year around this game. After a year, I am generally happy with HSBC. Got all the welcome bonus without talking to customer reps. This is a good deal if the HSBC World Elite MC has FYF and some better welcome bonus.

Few things that I don't like HSBC:
1. Mobile app sucks
2. Credit card transaction seems very delayed, no instant pending transactions
3. Branch hours suck.
4. Limited number of branches.

Gonna open up an advanced account. Anyone with a referral feel free to message me Winking Face
I believe the rules of forum say that you cannot ask for referrals.
I'm planning to get a Premium account but so far the people I know only have Advance
