I guess you should let it open till mid-September and then you should be good to go - cause sometimes they do have the clawback period of 1 year.

I have the Premier Account. Yes, u have to put 25k into the Premier chequing or savings account unil HSBC gives u the welcome bonus in 1 to 3 months. Then, you can take the 25k out, or transfer the 25k to HSBC Invest Direct to buy stocks or other securities for better returns.

Note that, the hsbc terms and conditions indicate that you have to keep the chequing account "active" for 12 months to avoid a charge back of the welcome bonus, and my hsbc relation manager told me that being active means at least one debit in the account.

For Canadians joining HSBC the offer ends at end of September.

For newcomers joining HSBC I do not quite see an end date tho.

Can someone with a Premier account refer someone wanting to open an Advance account? Or must you have the same account types (ie. Premier refers Premier for the $350 referral bonus, or Advance refers Advance for $100 referral bonus)?

I don't think the referrer's account type matters
only the type of account opened matters

One year after you receive the cash bonus based on the terms. So let's say:
account opened: 27 Aug 2018
cash bonus received: 27 Nov 2018
close account: Dec 2019

which one is better?
If you qualify, the newcomer option also has a nice 12-month account fee waiver. No need to maintain minimum balance to waive fees for one year. Though the initial deposit is higher, you can take your money out soon after making the deposit.

A 1 time hit on credit score won't impact you much so long as your making your monthly payments on time (above minimum) consistently.
I assume your not applying for 3-5 new credit items every month too.

HSBC's current 3% bonus interest on savings (for those who signed up in the spring) comes to an end Sept. 3. We were told that HSBC will have a new bonus interest rate offer at the start of September. Has anyone heard a number yet?

Thanks for reminding me
I guess we should move the money out to chequing then move back to saving after the promotion starts?
because I think they only count "new" money in the saving accounts for the bonus interest?

Thanks. Where did you see this? Is there a definition of New Money** further down the page? It seems a bit unclear as to whether money in the HRSA which is receiving the current bonus rate will continue with the new rate Sept. 4.

You (referrer) will need to fill in a form and give it to the branch. You don't have to give the referee those info, of course, HSBC may ask them when they open the account, saying,"oh, so you are referred by Larry?"

Should be any money earning the earlier promo bonus, plus any additional funds deposited before Sept 3.
