[VirginMobile.ca] HTC Wildfire S 0$, $150 Tab, $125 Gift Card, No Contract On Virgin Mobile At BB

Best Buy has this in the new flyer ending 3/8. HTC Wildfire android phone for 0$ on a $150 Tab, with an instant $125 gift card. No contract, pay off the tab anytime you want and cancel. No minimum plan required, plans as low as $20. They might need 30 days notice to cancel though? The tab is paid down by 10% of each monthly bill, and the 1st month of service might still be free on Virgin Mobile.

https://www-ssl.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/produc ... 1dcfe8en02

Update: Both Future Shop and Best Buy have extended this Wildfire S offer this week until 3/15/12. It's in both flyers. FS has a weird notation in the ad about up to $350 Tab?, but it is still posted as $150 Tab in store.

Update: Both BB and FS extended this deal again. Ending 3/22.

Update 4/28:
Best Buy has an extra $25 gift card for recycling a cell phone, with the current $75 gift card for the Virgin Wildfire S that totals $100 on a $150 Tab. At least closer to the $125 in the OP. Ending 5/3
If you don't have a recycler to donate, it might be worth a try to see if Future Shop would match the BB offer. If they will, I doubt that they will care if you actually have a phone to give in. YMMV.

It's a small thing but I forgot to mention the $5 in Reward Zone points at BB for a phone activation.

Are you sure its a $150 tab? On virgins website, it says the tab is $200?

Or am I missing something here...

Can the Virgin model be unlocked and used with Mobilicity? T-mobile Wildfire S seems okay for Mobilicity network. Thanks!

Wildfire S shows specs of:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100 HSDPA 850 / 1900

Don't think that will work on Mobilicity, but I could be wrong

Thanks for the reply. Researched more and found it can only support 2G network of Mobilicity (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/mobilici ... st12840073)..

BB and FS get a deal on the Tab, so they are at $150 while others are at $200. As strange as that may seem. Check the flyer fine print for confirmation.

I plan on checking in the morning, if it is a $150 tab this deal would be exremely hot when you take the $125 gift card into consideration.

It seems Futureshop is matching Best Buys deal for the phone & gift card.

Nice one if the $125 gift card can be used to pay the supertab, buying $150 in VM prepaid cards (assuming the supertab is $150 and not $200) and switching to a VM prepaid plan.

The phone has good reviews, e.g., http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/htc ... Body;page1

It's kind of small for an smartphone, and does not have forward facing camera for video calling like the higher end smartphones.

Is it available only in white/silver colours at BB? this colour combination is kind of girlish. The black one pictured in the cnet review looks cooler.

-------------------------

The phone's supertab can not be paid with VM prepaid cards as I thought. So, in total one may expect to shell out $150 to VM for the supertab, min $20 to VM for the first month on the new phone, but would get a credit on BB/FS for $125. -- payments plus taxes obviously --

e-mail received from VM CS:

Hey there JD!

You've reached Andrew with Virgin Mobile! First, allow me to apologize for the delay in my response. Your patience and understanding are appreciated. I'm certainly happy to answer your questions about getting a phone on SuperTab. I know this is important to you and I'm happy to point you in the right direction.

JD, it's not possible to have a phone on SuperTab on our pre-paid system. This is because the SuperTab is a post-paid option. If you would like to purchase the phone on SuperTab and switch to pre-paid, you would have to pay off the entire SuperTab balance. Check out the link below to learn more about SuperTab:

http://www.virginmobile.ca/en/plans/supertab.html

If you choose to purchase the phone on SuperTab, you would have to let the representative know that you wish to port your number. At that point, they will initiate the port of your number from the pre-paid system.

It's not possible to use a top-up card to make a payment towards a post-paid account or SuperTab. You can check out the link below to find out how to make payments to a post-paid account:

http://www.virginmobile.ca/en/support/waystopay.html

I hope this information is helpful. Thanks for your email and I hope you have a great day!

A simple google search gives

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7SBdLr2 ... re=related

http://www.htcsimunlock.com/htc-wildfire-s-unlock.html

Although, I'm not sure whether or not VM uses SIM cards on their phones.

In the specs at VM the phone seems able to work with and without SIM card.
---------------------
Edit 1:

VM Canada uses CDMA as I assumed initially.

The phone's specs at http://www.virginmobile.ca/en/phones/ph ... olour=Grey
includes GSM modes and even the manual linked in the same webpage shows how to change the SIM (page 10.)

Does this mean this phone is enabled to work in a CDMA network (Virgin Mobile / Sprint) AND a GSM network (the others)?

Virgin is owned by Bell, so that phone is a 3G SIM phone on the Belus network...

I searched on xda-developpers but it looks like this phone can't be unlocked unless hard wired, no software or remote unlock codes available

Edit: After further reading, looks like remote unlock is possible, may just been a bad code
