Hunter Douglas motorized blinds

Hi All,

I'm thinking to get Hunter Douglas motorized blinds. Any suggestions? I get mixed reviews about them.

I also got a quote from Somfy Sonesse but seems more expensive than Hunter Douglas.

I can't actually speak to the motorized blinds but we had some blinds by Hunter Douglas, went through a really good store/installer in our area, had problems with one blind more than 7 years later when we were selling our place. The store had their guys all booked but called around and got someone to come out the next day. It only cost us a minimal amount to have the guy out and repair the blind on the spot and I was seriously impressed that they had such a standard of care 7 years later.

I have Hunter Douglas motorized blinds and like them. For me, the motorized aspect isn't just the convenience, but (at least in my head) makes them more reliable, because most broken blinds in my history have been because of user error. They get stuck, you yank on them, you pull the wrong string, something snaps because you pull it too hard or at the wrong angle, etc.

i'm currently in the market for motorized blinds too, how much were they each on average?

It really depends on the type, style, size, fabric etc. We used a company in Vaughan who can price out a number of different things; they don't just sell Hunter Douglas so you get a comparison. Feel free to PM if you would like the contact.

We wanted motorized blinds as well but found them very expensive. Typically the motorized versions are 3-4x more expensive than the non-motorized versions. We ended up getting non-motorized blinds and bought motors from Zenismart and did it ourselves for $70-90 per blind. We chose motors that we could control with our Smartthings hub. There are lots of videos and how tos on the internet. Couldn't be happier with the results

We have a couple of Graber zwave motorized blinds purchased from Zebra Blinds.

The most recent one (2018) was a 46 x 40 cellular, it was $560 (out the door!). Seemed like a lot of money, but I really wanted something that integrated with Smartthings without a secondary bridge.

No complaints, we will use them for future blind purchases (although not necessarily motorized).

Thanks all. I think I'll go with Hunter Douglas because Costco has 15% gift card with Hunter Douglas purchase.

The motorized version is almost double compare to non motorized ones. For example, about 60" x 90" motorized for about $1100. You also need accessories and Hub if you wanna control them by Alexa or others, they cost about $500 which is same price always either you have 1 blind or many.

I purchased Bali motorized roller shades, they go for 15-25% off through Costco every few months.

They are zwave (Somfy) so can easily link to smartthings. They are cheaper than all the other options I looked into, of course depending on style/color.

Using home assistant I mapped the controls to lutron pico remotes (with lutron pro hub), so only needed one remote to initially program all my shades (top and bottom).
