Hyundai wheel assembly replacement

Hi, I am new here, and would appreciate any advice on where I can get a rear wheel assembly. I am looking to buy the part in Ontario, Canada, so would Canadian tire be a good option? I don't hear good things about it. I've checked amazon, parts avatar and hyundai dealerships. I don't see any pricing lower than $171, but I do see $70 wheel assemblies for other cars. Why is that? Are those parts previously used, and why is it so expensive for Hyundai parts?

I've checking with some dealerships, and doing my own research, so your advice would help me to supplement common knowledge, etc. Thanks in advance for your help!

Can just order the part from Canadian Tire (how is the quality) and they will order it for me even if they don't have it in stock?

Also, does anyone know the supplier for parts, as I should be able to buy directly from that brand I guess. Is it possible to contact the suppliers from various mechanics to get the part at the same price that mechanics get to buy it?

Also, I should be able to buy the part and then give it to the mechanic to fix, right? Is there anything I need to know about that (advice)?

Finally, I'm wondering if wheel assembly is covered under warranty as I guess it's not really considered wear and tear - can someone please clarify for me, as I checked the Hyundai website and several other references but it's not too clear for me as those sites list in generalities.

No idea about warranty. For parts pricing, always check Rock Auto online.

No to Canadiantire. Don't buy car parts from there generally, and definitely do not get work done there.
list your exact model/year/trim so we can help. rockauto would be the first place to look.

Look for local auto parts wholesalers, many sell to the public as well as to independant garages.

You need to know what part you need. Wheel assembly isn't one. Rock Auto will give you an idea of the parts and USD prices plus all in shipping, duty and taxes.

Heavy parts often are less expensive for comparable quality locally because weight often adds a lot to the shipping.

It also depends on how quickly you need the work done.

And what exactly do you need? A rear wheel hub? What's your problem? Bearing noise?

I had to order one for my car last week and got it from Rockauto, $145 shipped for my car for a known quality brand(Timken).

When I did my research, pay the extra and stick with brand like SFK or Timken so you don't ever have to redo it.

Wheel bearing is a wear item, just like brakes. $171 is cheap.

The first reply to your thread @iGarage is a well respected mechanic in the RFD community. His shop is by McCowan and Highway 7 in Markham.

You may want to give him a call.

Quality work at reasonable prices.

Thanks for the replies.
I see a lot of comments about the wheel bearing. It's not the wheel bearing that I have an issue with. It's that I went to a horrible mechanic and the stud broke when taking off my tire. I just need the wheel plate, but I guess I can't buy it separately. Everything is fine, it's just that one stud hole doesn't hold a stud because it got drilled through. I asked another mechanic to weld it back. this is suffiicent normally, and I'd like to keep it that way. But the problem is I need it to pass Safety check (Safety certificate) and so the wheel assembly won't. It sucks b/c the mechanic technically broke my car, I convinced them to pay for it, and then they backtracked on their word. There's nothing I can do after that. I can't go back to that mechanic b/c they won't honour their word, and I can't ask a new mechanic to fix it including other stuff. So that bad mechanic will cost me like $200. Mechanics are supposed to fix my car, not break it! I was upset. And it's not just replacing a stud. The housing for it is ruined. Technically the car is fixed (I like the way I fixed it) but it won't pass safety. I want a mechanic that will fix this for me since it wasn't even my fault. I'm not supposed to be paying for this.

Hi. Thanks for your response. So you bought the part and then installed it yourself? What 'extra' payment do you mean? You mean you prefer to have it done by a mechanic? With all the car videos nowadays, I'm ok with trying to fix it myself. I really don't see why I should be paying so much for a problem with the mechanic - they broke my car part.

May I ask which resources you are using to reference that? As mentioned in my original post, I see prices as low as $70. Obviously an attractive price. Just not for Hyundai.

See my full post about the wheel plate face thingy. there is no probelm with the bearing. In fact I already fixed the car by requesting a weld. But this is not sufficient for a fixed car.

Hi,
no there is nothing wrong with the bearing. I'd like to keep it if possible and just have that wheel face plate part replaced. Would that be cheaper? I don't think the part itself exists alone. It's either: bearing, wheel bearing assembly.. But I want the part without the bearing if that exists b/c my bearing is fine. What I wrote with wheel assembly was intentional.

I checked Rockauto.com but no Hyundai parts...:(

That's exactly it...I'm actually trying to ask this forum for an actual practical list. I am already thinking of local auto parts wholesalers but need the practical shops.

Go see igarage and let him get the parts so he can fix the problem properly the first time

If you don't know what you are looking for, all that's going to happen is you are just going to end up with the wrong part - that can't easily be returned.
It will likely end up costing you more just guessing than if you just went to him in the first place

I can't imagine how a welded wheel stud would be safe regardless of needing a safety certificate. You are currently driving this car with the welded stud? Sounds dangerous.
