I rent out two rooms in a house, can I put up two separate mailboxes for the tenants?

Two of my tenants renting different room in the same house would like to have separate mailboxes. Can I just set up two mailboxes in front of the house labled unit 1 and unit 2? I guess I should go to canada post to set up something, but thinking as long the mailman sees two boxes and puts the letters in accordingly. there is no harm just to set it up and save the trouble.

has anyone done this before?

I have here is how it will play out:

In theory:
Canada post will not officially recognize a second address unless you have paper work from the city.
Canada Post employees are paid based on exact measurements and number of mailboxes on their daily route.
They are actually not allowed to do it.

In practice:
If you have the same mail person on your route who knows that mailbox wasn't there before they will not separate the mail.
If a new person takes over that route they will separate the mail until they figure out the mailbox shouldn't be there.

In other news today, a local mail carrier is dead. She laughed to death while on her daily route..............

go ahead if you want the mail person to stop delivery until there supervisor approves the addition of extra address to there route......I change the location of the mail box by 3 feet in one of my Apartment buildings from outside to inside , and the mail stopped coming until the supervisor approved the extra time it toke on the route....the supervisor came with a wheel tape measure and timer and he added 6 seconds to the mail persons routes time for the 3 feet and the door buzzer. This is how serious they are.

I think your issue was really from gaining entry. Canada Post would not approve entry with a door buzzer. I'm sure they said key or no mail.

If the mailman stopped delivering based on the 3 foot movement alone he would be in trouble for that. If the route is not scored properly he should be asking for overtime. If the overtime request gets denied he should go to union rep.

had everything done correctly , with Canada Post keyed buzzer for the front door , Had to go to Canada Post and pick up the lock for the Buzzer then to the locksmith for installation of the outdoor casing , the new boxes were installed at the height requirements for the New Mail boxes but the post person complained to there supervisor anyway. The supervisor came and measured everything and told me they will add time to the route because the post person need to come inside now.

Why is this even a big deal to your tenants? We live in the basement suite in my hubby's parents house. I couldn't care less that our mail all goes into the same box.
