If polyester doesn't shrink, how come mine did?

I recently bought a polyester shirt for working out, and it's awesome. It breaths so well and I'm sweating less, but it shrank quite a bit - about an inch from the bottom.

I read polyester is material that is hard to shrink, even if you wash in hot water. I've washed it once in the washing machine, in cold water, and every other time I hand wash in the bathroom sink because I use the shirt almost every other day.

I hang the shirt in the bathroom, sometimes after taking a shower, so I thought maybe it was from the humidity - but I heard it wouldn't shrink that way either. So basically I'm stumped.

Any ideas that would prevent the shrinking?

none of my polyester shirts have shrunk... washed it in hot/warm/cold... no problem... the things don't die unless you take a scissor to it...

Nope lol

and nope

I've noticed my pants got a tiny bit looser, so I'm definitely not gaining a lot of weight. I recently bought the same shirt without sleeves, and I compared the two, and the newer one is about longer than the older one - so I'm sticking with the polyester shirt shrank.

I double checked that yesterday just to make sure, yes it's 100% polyester.

Polyester is a plastic fiber, so it is pretty difficult to shrink.
Did you put it in the dryer? Heat can ruin the stretch/elasticity of the fiber...but that wouldn't cause shrinking.

I would take it back to the store.
