Improving bad credit score

Hello,

With a transunion score of 619. What is the best prepaid credit card to improve credit rating as soon as possible. ?

Any other non-prepaid credit cards I can be approved for ? I don’t want to get rejected since I have no cards at the moment. I need credit card to build back my credit.

Thanks in advance!!

Capital One (secured or unsecured) and PCF (Presidents Choice Financial - unsecured) are likely your two best chances

With that score you might have a shot at the Triangle MC as well.

You’ve got your answer in the posts above.
Those are hands down your best choices.
But I will add one thing, they are not “prepaid” cards.
I’m sure you mean secured, where you put down money to get the card?

Have people been approved for these unsecured with score or 619?

What is the probability of getting approved for the triangle? I wanted to sign up for this since they offer roadside assistance.

Yes I meant secured where you put down a deposit. I rather not go that route if I can be approved for a traditional unsecured credit card.

at the top of this credit card forum, there is a sticky thread Credit Scores Approved and Denied...

In that thread, the very 1st post has a link to a Google Doc that has info that may help you get a better understanding of approve/decline probability

Only the Triangle World Elite provides roadside assistance. You won't get approved for the World Elite at 619. You only have a chance of getting the basic Triangle Mastercard.

In terms of unsecured card, no one can guarantee which card will approve your application and which will decline you. There are many factors besides score itself.

You either apply secured card first and then get unsecured card as soon as you improve the score

Or just apply said unsecured cards and try your luck. If no FI approve you, then apply secured cards

For secured cards, you can go with Capital one or Home Trust. They don't care about the score as you are putting in a security deposit but they do run a credit check. The best option is to apply for a Canadian tire or PC financial credit card before you apply for a secured card. The secured card has a 100% approval guarantee and shouldn't have any negative effect on your credit score in a long run. Capital one $59 fee gold card is guaranteed to be approved and sometimes they increase the credit limit without any additional deposit.

I don't have secured card, so this could be a silly question:
What's issue with big banks for example TD secured card? Higher fee?

Thanks guys for the replies. Koodo had screwed me over when I had closed an account and I did not know I owed 30$. Which charge wasn’t justified and shouldn’t have been there. No letters were sent, only an email which was probably sent to junk.

I have been talking to them for hours and they finally agreed to amend and pull back from the credit beaureu. This is only if I cleared the balance. Transunion score updated from 619 to 728!! However equifax is 684 and it was 684 before. I am hoping equifax gets updated soon.m and they reported the amendment to both.

Big 5 doesn't have any secured credit product and can sometimes approve it depending on the manager or underwriter. Companies such as capital one and Home trust specifically have these products for people with different credit situations. Also, if you have never dealt with TD or any of the big 5 before it's best not to show or tell about your credit situation as it could affect your chance to get credit product in future. They mostly note it in your file.

If possible try to get it in writing from Koodo and also note down the name of the agent, time and phone number. Also, keep a copy of the report after it's removed and check the report after 3-6 months. I was in a similar situation where it got relisted after 2 months and the credit bureau needed proof to remove it. They contacted the company and company said they have no proof of transaction or interaction. Ultimately I had to file a complaint with the office of president(ROGERS) to have it removed. The best is to have proof because debt might have been sold to a third-party collections.

Last but not least, GET A LETTER FROM KOODO THAT THIS ACCOUNT HAS NO OUTSTANDING BALANCE OR ALL BALANCE PAID OFF AND ACCOUNT CLOSED.

I tried very very hard to it in writing but Koodo doesn’t send emails. I suppose I can ask for a letter to be mailed. I am not sure even if that’s possible. I did ask consent and recorded the conversation on my phone.

Try if you can have the letter mailed. If you have recorded, u should be fine but still, note down the name, time and phone number as most of them keep recording and it's easier to deal with them when complaining.
