Income tax & working away from home

Hello,

If my job requires me to be present in a remote office (1000km away from home office) is the costs I bear (housing, transportation etc) a tax deduction? My salary would be increased to cover these additional costs but I am wondering if this uplift is taxable if I spend it all on housing etc?

Eg. I receive an additional salary of $25k/yr, will I have the entire $25k to spend on housing etc at the remote location or $25k minus income taxes, say around $15k.

Thanks for any advice,
Chris

Are you an employee or a contractor/self-employed? Start with that...

Ask an accountant.

Usually a company would structure it so it is not taxable. Paying the housing directly etc. If they are a small company and/or this is new you should discuss with them and an accountant to make sure you don't end up disadvantaged.
