Infiniti Q50 red sport - how to make the pipe less noisy?

Okay, this is the moment a ricer finally realized that he is not young any more.

Took delivery of a 2021 Q50 red sport. Everything is good except for the ridiculously loud exhaust sound. It is so freaking loud, I can feel the vibration come from under the seat. I use normal mode, not sport. Eco mode is even worse, because the pro-longed acceleration, it keeps being loud. And I mean in-cabin all window closed, I don't know how loud it is outside; maybe not much.

Already tried the secret menu & turned off fake exhaust. Omg this thing don't need any pumped in audio. Any time I lightly touch the gas peddle, it hums like a nuthead modded BRZ.

I start to have headache after a short IKEA run involving some highway. Compare to my old non-redsport Q50, I like the quietness of the old car a lot. And I am driving slower than most cars on the road. Corollas & CRVs pass me all day long.

Is there an easy way to make the exhaust less noisy? Too much trouble to replace the whole exhaust. I am considering to wear bose QC25 when driving.

You couldn't get a test drive before committed to buy the car?

Now you make me curious how noisy is a Q50 Red sport.

There is no normal mode, sport mode on the car?

On both on our Lexus and MB, the normal/comfort mode which is very acceptable and not noisy at all, only if we switch to sport +, then it gets more peak sound and react a lot differently, especially on the C43.

I have not tried sport mode yet. Normal is making me headache. The low pitch humming noise is in cabin, maybe not that bad from outside.

Cruising at 60km, it constantly has this hum when I only lightly put my foot on pedal. Maybe just me getting old, sensitive to noise.

That's fake exhaust/ANC being pumped into the cabin.

*Never mind see you already turned it off.

Honestly either change the exhaust or change the car, if you already turned off the piped-in exhaust, drive in comfort mode, and are keeping the rpm's low.... That's as quiet as its gonna get.

I have a Q50 red sport and I have no idea what you're talking about. The Q50RS is one of the quietist performance sedans on the road. I wish it was louder and had some sound to it lol.

Maybe you have an exhaust leak due to the exhaust pipes not being secured together properly. Ask the dealer to look at it, or test drive another Q50RS. It would explain why you didn't hear it on your initial test drive.

On the spec sheet there is standard "axle back sport exhaust". Maybe new in 2021 RS.

How do you like it?

Also if you don’t mind - how much do you spend on a tank of gas and how far does a tank get you in real life.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about mileage and maintenance from others.

Agree 100%

I have a Q50 RS as well, the thing that annoys me is the lack of a performance "sounding" exhaust. I was looking into at least an axle-back exhaust, to improve the sound a little.

My buddy's C43 AMG sounds mean, with the burbles and pops stock from the factory. Even another family friend's BMW X3 m40i sounds meaner, which is supposed to be a family SUV.

$90 to $100 these days. About 450km to 500km on a tank. Averaging 13.5L per 100km per the vehicle. In sport mode it drinks gas but it does have pep. Maintenence wasn't too bad I did have the water pump, belt and couple other things replaced under warranty but it's been reliable other than that.

A new mid pipe as well.

Axel-back sports exhaust and revised exhaust mid-pipe for more powerful sound

Sounds great but could benefit from factory valves. My suggestion would to find someone in the Q50 community to trade with. The Helmholtz muffler is definitely louder than the can style sport muffler.

For those curious what the car sounds like:

Yes, my car sounds exactly like that. It is not bad from outside, what really bad is the droning hum sound inside at low speed.
