3 Months Free Instacart Express with TD

Deal Link:
Expiry:
September 22, 2021
Retailer:
Instacart
Basically free grocery delivery.
It says that you need TD access card (Visa Debit) or TD Travel Rewards.
Instacart is probably not for everyone, but it's great for students like me without cars.
FYI some groceries increase their prices on Instacart (i.e. Costco)

Unless something has changed recently, Instacart adds a margin to every item they sell (some more than others depending on the grocery provider). Not one item is sold without margin though and that's on top of their fees and charges (+ not being able to use any in-store promos either)

It is convenient though so I'll give it that

I'm pretty sure it's dependant on the store, as Walmart's prices on instacart are the same in store. But Costco's prices are way higher at instacart than in the warehouse.

Exactly. I tried them for a month during the pandemic, and was disappointed to find that they modified the prices with additional margin. It felt a little sneaky, because it wasn't on all products, but most often on produce (ie where its easier to hide the price increase per pound/kg).

When I added the additional margin, to the additional fee, to the delivery fee, to the tip - it was much better for me to pay Loblaws (or No Frills, or RCSS) the $3 to load my online grocery order into my trunk. And, that way I would qualify for the flyer specials too.

But I have a car.... So those without a car might still find their service worthwhile.

Does the link work for others? When I click it it re-routes me to the main page, no details on the promo. I tried the copy and paste route but same issue

Maybe haven't check. But for stores like Walmart, they added the label "in store prices", whatever that means.

Instacart founder said it themselves that they charge an average of 15% markup on top of store prices. Then they charge delivery fee, a service fee, an "express" fee plus they expect a tip on top of that.

I'm not sure about you all but that's not a deal for me

I think so long as there is transparency in the fees which I think they’ve gotten better at - then consumers can decide if they want to pay more for an added value service.

I often ordered grocery for my senior aged parents in a different city during the height of the pandemic - sometimes you have to pay for convenience and this would be a deal for those that use and value the service and bank with TD.

Thanks OP!

Btw FYI:

I was playing around with my TD Aeroplan card on the Instacart site (just to see if the pricing has changed - Walmart aside, most other store prices are still ridiculous) and it worked with the 3 months Instacart Express offer as well!

Service Fees without Instacart Express = 7% pre-tax

It says 'reduced' service fees, however, doesn't specify amount. Can anyone with an IE subscription let me know?

Interested in signing up for 3 months closer to the 20th .. although I have a $15 off promo that expires this week, so trying to decide if I should sign up this week or later for a small Costco order.

Edit: signed up for IC Express to answer my own question; on an order of $35.07 (min $35 to use $15 off promo), $2.01 total savings on Service Fees + SF taxes; see screenshots before and after IC Express

Not sure why this is under Expired Offers:

Instacart Express and TD Rewards Offer Ends September 22, 2021

Edit: extended to Oct 22nd

#1 If you have any $15 Off Instacart Promos, you can stack with 3 months Instacart Express TD Rewards Offer and 'Schedule Order' for later date

#2 Costco Members enter Membership # and see reduced prices ... a few items even less than Costco Grocery

#3 For payment, can use Amex Cobalt 5x Supermarkets and/or Amex cards with Eats/Drinks Multiplier = bonus!

End of my 3 month freebie, about to cancel but notice a great deal for renewal:

$1 for annual renewal ($99/yr after)

Not sure if this has always been the case. If true, then I would stick around longer since they occasionally give free shopping credits.

Moreover, this would be a great reason to stack up on the current deal on Instacart GC at Costco

Thanks for posting!

Hmm, mine doesn't expire until beginning of Dec, however, I cancelled already (and able to use until 3 month end date) since I didn't want to forget.

Wonder if I should turn back on 'auto-renew' and cancel closer to renewal date to see what offer I might get ... or, is this a limited time '98% off promo'?!

I learned to set a date on my calendar as an event so I can take advantage of multiple deals with expiry without losing my sanity =)
Not a bad thing to keep around even if you only use it on very limited occasions. I like to keep mine for heavy stuff like drinks, with the free credits.

It didn't say anything about time limit on mine, neither did a cursory search on Google yield more details.

So, you didn't cancel early ... and when you went to cancel now the 'Change My Plan' options showed up with the 98% off option?

Am thinking that I will only get an offer, if I turn back on 'Auto Renew' and then try to cancel closer to end date!

It was the same page (under "* Instacart Express tab") that I would press "cancel membership", where it showed my current plan, renewal date, and the deal (shown in picture). I didn't have to choose the "cancel" option or "auto renewal" first to get the deal. Like most deals, auto renewal is likely the default.

Hmm...that's why I wonder if others have seen the same offer. I don't recall seeing this offer when I first signed up.
