Intake and Exhaust Hoods for HRV

Hi

I'm going to do a duct work for HRV install and I was wondering what type of hoods should I use

There is this type
Louvered Vent Hood with Metal Screen for exhaust
http://www.imperialgroup.ca/generalventing.cfm?c=217

And Intake Hood with Metal Screen
http://www.imperialgroup.ca/generalventing.cfm?c=213

The problem that I can think about with them is that on intake there is no dumper to close when not in use

The second type is something like this http://www.imperialgroup.ca/generalventing.cfm?c=226
In this one I'm not sure if the fact that its pointing down will not block too much air flow
Also there is a dumper on the intake and I'm again not sure how much it will affect the air flow
Since the dumpers are not so accessible from outside I'm also a bit concerned they might freeze and I wont be able to see it and do anything about it

I believe most HRV have a motorized damper inside to isolate the vent path when not in use. My hoods are just simple screens connected to insulated flex ducting.

Yes except of the really inexpensive HRVs they all have dumpers, but still there is a length of the duct and in my case one of them is going to be relatively long
And dumpers is not all my concerns I'm not sure how much the second type of hoods will affect air flow because they direct air down

^ yes, the damper is inside the HRV, at least in mine.

I bought hoods from the HRV manufacturer - it only came with simple screens. The screen is pretty coarse, probably like 1/4" or so iirc.

The duct between the hood and the hrv damper may be long, but the duct should be insulated and it will be stagnant air anyways. Not worth worrying about.
