iOS 14.4 on Iphone 8 and 6s

Hi Guys, need your help here. I have Iphone 8 and Iphone 6s. I am concernd about the performance impact of the iOS update.

The Guy at Costco pretty much said that his iPhone 8 had become unusable.
The folks who updated to iOS on iPhone 8 and 6s, what are you guys experiencing? What are hearing anecdotally?

Thanks!

No problems with iOS 14.4 on an Xr, 8, and X.

Personally, I would not take a salesperson's word for it.

Was s/he trying to sell you a new phone and/or plan?

No issues with an 8plus, before I sold it
6s no problems with 14.4, it was the battery and storage that are issues.

Costco sales rep: “My iPhone 8 became unstable after the latest iOS update. I have a good dealio on a iPhone 12 Pro max for you!!”

Tho mind you, my dad is the last family member on a iPhone 7 & I have a iPhone SE 2020 lined up for him to switch over.

I feel the iPhone 7 is a bit long in the tooth....and he prefers the Touch ID...

I had an iPhone 8+ from my previous job and wouldn’t for the life of me update to the new ios for me. Sadly I was let go from last week and needed a phone for possible jog opportunities. So I went with the iPhone 12. Would of liked the pro but too much for me right now with no job. It feels smaller then my 8+ but it was probably because of the Otter Casing it was in because this one is somehow bigger. Nicer screen for videos with Dolby Vision available and a much better camera too

iPhone 6S here, took the plunge to iOS14.4 a few weeks ago. No noticeable performance difference compared to iOS13.7 to my eyes. I was worried it will kill it too, but seems to run alright on the older hardware. Battery life is just as bad as it was on iOS 13.7 so no change there for me.

What was the battery like? Also, how was the battery health?

85% battery health. But my 6S has had it tristar chip replaced before, so not exactly in the best shape when it comes to the battery/charging system. All I can say is the battery life was no better /worse after going from 13.7 to 14.4 to me

Battery life was perfectly fine on the 8+ (88% battery health)
iPhone 6s on the other hand the battery was garbage even before 14, so it was terrible. But no different than ios 12, 13 or 14 tbh.

How many apps were running? Could be that the phone was defective too?

The iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, and iPhone SE (original) are all fine on iOS 14.x.

They're not exactly blazing fast, and if you push them they can lag esp. when switching apps, but overall the performance is quite good. I'd have no problem using the 7 Plus (which has 3 GB RAM) as my daily driver.

In fact, in some ways I prefer the 7 Plus over my 12 Pro Max (which has 6 GB RAM) on 14.4. The 12 Pro Max is a major PITA with Face ID and masks. Luckily for me and my wife (who has a XR), iOS 14.5 brings unlocking of our iPhones by our Apple Watches.

Note though, the iPhone 8, 6s, and SE all have 2 GB RAM. That can make them lag more when switching apps. My 7 Plus and the 8 Plus mentioned in this thread have 3 GB RAM. However, I will reiterate that the 6s and SE are fine with most regular mainstream usage.

I upgraded from iOS 13.7 to 14.4 iPhone 8 last night. The performance remains unaffected, will update on battery life.

I have an iPhone 7 plus on iOS 14 and it runs perfectly fine. There are zero stutters or lags when using the phone. Some apps do take longer to open because of the older processor.

How long does your battery last? My battery health is 84% but literally get only a couple of hours of screen usage on a full charge. Thanks!
