iPad Air screen replaced home button not working

Hello I bought an iPad 5 screen which comes with a home button, I am trying to replace my iPad Air broken digitizer. Once I am done, touch screen works fine but home button is not responding. Unfortunately the old home button and cable are both broken.

I read these 2 iPad models use the same screen this is why I bought this part. Now the seller told me the screen is the same but home button is not compatible.

What confuses me is that other sellers are selling the same digitizer+home button for both iPad Air and iPad gen5. So I am wondering is this seller lying to me or other sellers listing it incorrectly?

According to search results I found, the home button needs to match the digitiser; that is, you need to buy a 5th Gen digitizer with a 5th Gen home button. Maybe the home button is not for a 5th Gen?

I am repairing Ipad air 1st gen broken screen

I bought ipad gen 5 digitizer with home button and used on ipad air , as many ebay sellers are selling the same product for both models.

The seller where I bought from listed as ipad gen 5 digitizer , he did not list it for both ipad air and ipad 5gen. So I am trying to dertermine if I bought the wrong product, or he is lying to me.

I have done 2 ipad repairs myself, so not a big deal to do it one more time, just do not want to buy another ipad digitzier with home button and find out it not working.

The price on ebay is under $25, ifixit Canada has it for $70

I understand your frustration. Sounds like the home button that came with the digitizer may not have been matched in that they came from different models.

I admire your repair skills. I would not have the nerve to attempt this type of repair.
