Iphone messages backup

Is there a way to backup your messages and pictures and transfer it to a new iphone but nothing else? Ie setting up the new iphone as a new iphone and not via a backup?

Is there a way to merge ios and android Whatsapp data? I knew this wasn't possible in the past but I read that it is in the newer versions. Can anyone describe how this is done?
