Do you guys have any ideas how one can spend $5000 in 3 months. I usually fly a lot, but not for another 8 months. I just can't think of anything. My business expenses are around $300-400/month maximum. Add restaurants and other staff and perhaps I can push it to 2-3K.
PS. CIBC Business gold still free for the first year with 25-30K points.

I think that gift cards to places you will go to and spend money in the future would be a good choice (LCBO, grocery stores, etc).dazz wrote: ↑Do you guys have any ideas how one can spend $5000 in 3 months. Plastiq charges 2 to 2.5 percent for many other vendors that don't accept credit card. CRA, property taxes, tuition are 3 big ones.
You can set Plastiq as a double points vendor so you'll get back 2 points per dollar spent, in effect making it break even or close to it
Good way to get close to 5k

Thinking of going the Plastiq route to get to the 5k spend on the Bus Gold...crimsona wrote: ↑Plastiq charges 2 to 2.5 percent for many other vendors that don't accept credit card. CRA, property taxes, tuition are 3 big ones.

Haven't signed up yet for Plastiq, think it may be time to try it. Nice that they can be the 2x points from Amex Vendor List.
Are most/all cities property taxes available to be paid via Plastiq? (i.e. Winnipeg?)

Just a question....
If i were to apply for both TD and CIBC cards on the same day or within few days of each other... would that count as two credit checks or one?
TIA!

I have the same issue! I've only spent $1200 in the 1st month of getting my card. However,I should be OK as I have car insurance next month and so does my Mum!dazz wrote: ↑Do you guys have any ideas how one can spend $5000 in 3 months. Suggestions,in addition to car insurance is to pay in advance or the whole year(cancel monthly payments)other bills that take Amex such as mobile phone, house insurance, cable TV etc. and If you drive,Esso gift cards. Also, ask if you can pay for family member's bills on your amex......

I have the platinum card, will I get 25,000 referral bonus if I refer a friend to personal Gold or only referral bonus for platinum card only?

Sorry Jerry, the links you provided are for NBC? My Q is regarding SPG Amex. All the changes at Amex have left me confused...was pretty straightforward at one time. Now just a head scratcher. Just asking for your experience with second time application.jerryhung wrote: ↑You didn't know what would happen when you tried self-referral?

My OP doesn't cover EVERY card, and NBC WE is a bit more complicated vs. the cards in my OP with straight welcome bonus.
One can still read up on their original threads

Jerry: You'll know when you get your monthly statement. At this point with AMEX.ca nobody knows for sure

Any idea if the 75K MR points via referral is a temporary promotion? Currently have a Gold and will be looking to get a Platinum sometime later in the year. Just wondering if there was any need to rush.

When applying via referral links for the AMEX MR cards, what does the referrer get?

25k points if they're referring from a platinum, or 10k if referring from a business gold.
The way I see it is, either take it from a someone who you have a real relationship with, charge like a escort from random strangers but in no circumstances have a one night stand giving yourself out for free

Please post whether or not you receive referral points.jerryhung wrote: ↑As my Personal SPG $120 renewal is coming up
Self-referred from Personal SPG -> Business SPG today ($150 fee)
no online decision b/c of previous application (of AMEX card) in 60 days, system considered it duplicate and needed manual approval, called in to get it approved, arrives in 3-10 days
I read that no more referral points for self-referral from personal to biz SPG.I haven't seen any recent data points.

I always stayed away from travel rewards because I never really traveled that much and it was always so hard to redeem and get your moneys worth. So instead I've used the Capital One Aspire (before the Amex Gold) with 2% cashback for years. Been great. But now with a growing family and wanting to take the kids on yearly vacations I am looking for the best bang for your buck travel rewards and hoping for greater than 2% return. Would you recommend collecting aeroplan for flights or something else like SPG for hotels? My spending on CC fluctuates but is usually between $3-5k/month.
