Just improved my WiFi signal from 60-80Mbps to over 500Mbps

Recently I signed up with Rogers 500U deal. I was having some series speed issues with wifi, so I thought it might be the Modem. Made a call to Tech department; they made me do a speed test and then offered me to have a technician cover over look at the issue. The technician came over and did a speed and showed me 600Mbps on his laptop. But I was only getting 80Mbps on my phone with the 5G Band.

He told me there is nothing he can do for me as Rogers is not responsible for wifi speed issues. As he was leaving, he told me 'if you have low storage space on your phone, that can be the reason why you are having speed issues.

I was kinda dumbfounded by this, really storage space? I still had about 4GB left. Anyways I backed up all my pictures and video from the phone, and then deleted them all from the device. And Just like that, I now have 500Mbps on wifi.

Did you reboot after deleting? I wonder if it was the cold boot that resolved the Wifi issue you were having. Interesting and congrats!

He had to say something to rationalize the $49.95 charge that's gonna show up on your bill next month.

I had pretty bad wifi signals for almost 4 days and during that time I tried restarting and even updating my device, which didn’t help. No I didn’t restart the device after deleting and freeing up space.

Sounds like a happy coincidence to me.

Let us know if you can replicate the slow down when the phone fills up again.

Happy coincidence; I will gladly take that. :) I honestly don't know what exactly made the speed improve, other then the storage dump. I was averaging 50-80mbps for almost 4 days and now I'm averaging over 500Mbps consistently. It even goes over 600Mbps every now and then.

Do an actual Speedtest. Your phone may not be able to reach those speeds. Also do a speed test on your pc.

he has 600mbps on his laptop.
1.WAS IT WIRE-CONNECTED TO THE MODEM/ROUTER? or WAS IT WIRELESS? You are missing an important point.

2.If he gets 600mbps on his laptop wirelessly (although I highly doubt it), and your phone only gets 80mbps, don't you think it is your phone?

Try filling up your phone with a large movie file or something. Run speed test and see.

Often technicians will say any old thing that comes to mind, because to validate that "thing" you'd need to reboot - and it's the reboot that cures the problem, not the weird thing that they ask you to do.

I love how first level help desk techs will sometimes tell you to defrag your hard drive if you're getting BSODs... because obviously the process of defragmenting has been shown to prevent BSODs (9 out of 10 dentists agree). :rolleyes:

You are missing the whole point, anyways the problem is fixed.

Not nearly as good as your 9000Mbps, but I'm happy with my service now;
