Kirkland Battery Design Issue

Just bought a new battery for my 2015 Santa Fe Sport. It takes a 124R battery, or a kirland 27 group battery.

Problem is, they have changed the design and now the top of the battery has all this plastic in the way of the damn terminals. They have now built in this plastic handle which is all fine, but now the posts are recessed in two cut outs and the large positive terminal connector doesn't fit

Am I out to lunch here or did they really mess up the design of these new batteries? This massive t shape plastic piece on top of the battery doesn't look removable, and I dont want to dismantle the connector to try and make it smaller.

See included pictures.

Are you sure that's the correct battery? It looks like they gave you the wrong battery. Your battery says Group H8 or H6 (I think)

Make sure you get the correct Group 124 R battery.

I'm fairly certain, from what I read and according to their instore book my 2015 sport doesn't require an AGM battery, just a normal flooded battery. Ì

You probably don't need AGM but you need a 124R size as there are size differences:
https://www.jegs.com/Sizecharts/bcigroup.html

East Penn makes that in a Flooded Battery. An example can be found at Canadian Tire

https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/moto ... ugg_q=124r

Walmart sells 124R batteries as well.

East Penn information can be found here

Hyundai Forums might have some suggestions

Looks like you bought the wrong size. I'd return it and make sure you buy the correct battery.

Interesting.

Johnson Controls does not manufacture Vehicle Battery for Costco anymore?

I bought my last Costco Battery in 2017 and was thinking about replacing it this Year because it's @5 Years Old.

I never take the instore books as gospel as sometimes their vendor does not make the correct size and give you something that should work. Your best bet is to always check your owner's manual as it will show the battery size and type. Alternatively, you can check with the local dealership parts counter and they can tell you the size and ask them who makes the battery. Once you get that info, you can shop around to find the best price for the battery. I believe East Penn supplies the majority of batteries in Canada.

As much as I like Costco for their pricing and hassle free warranties, if they don't have the correct battery, i'd go elsewhere and get something that just works.

I will bet that someone simply put the H6 in the wrong slot on the rack at Costco.

That must be it. I thought for sure the label on the front of the battery was right but the same label on top of the factory intact says h6. I'll go back today after work.

You picked up the wrong battery. 124R and H6 are different.

Image

The 124R here doesn't even have the recess on the terminals.

Image

H6 battery is Costo's fitment code 24

Some of your terminology is mixed. "124R battery, or a kirland 27 group battery. " 124R is the Group Size, this is a universal standard at every store. Costco has their own proprietary Fitment Code, in this case it's 27. This is supposed to help customers find their battery easier but I find it more confusing than helpful (Because now you have Group Size 24 and also a Costco Fitment Code 24, which are 2 totally different sizes).

Also try to get a fresher battery next time. 01/21 was made a year ago, I wouldn't take anything off the shelf more than 3 months old. EDIT: Nevermind read 10 as 01

The sticker says 10/21 which is fine. It is upside down so it looks like 01 vs 10. If you have a battery charger, just hook it up to the new battery to fully charge it to remove any sulfation.

Just caught that now

True but if given the choice I'd go for new vs old. Also that's assuming;

-RFDer has a battery charger
-RFDer bothered reading the battery thread

Agree 100%. If you can get a fresh battery sure. If not, 3 months old is not too bad.
