Kojima Name Removed From Metal Gear Solid V Box Art

Luke Karmali (IGN) wrote:The saga that is the deteriorating relationship between Konami and Hideo Kojima continues as the publisher has decided to remove all references to the Metal Gear Solid creator from the box art for The Phantom Pain.

The latest pack shots were uploaded yesterday, and NeoGAF users spotted a couple of changes appear to have been made. You can see the old box art below on the left, with the new one on the right. In the bottom left of each cover the Kojima Productions logo has been removed, while "A Hideo Kojima Game" is also absent from just below the console masthead.

It's the latest in a long line of issues between Kojima and Konami. Though we've seen Kojima's name and the Kojima Productions logo pulled off the Konami website before now, last we heard things seemed to be mellowing as the company was readding his name to its products. Now, it seems Konami has decided against this course of action.

Of course, earlier this week the Japanese voice actor for Snake confirmed the closure of Kojima Productions, so perhaps this isn't too surprising. Regardless, it's a depressing state of affairs considering Kojima has repeatedly stated he will be committed to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain up to the game's release.

Kojima Productions' final game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, is set to release on September 1.

Hoping Konami fails miserably in 2016

Does anybody actually know why Konami/Kojima split? Everybody assumes Konami was in the wrong

Speculation is that Kojima was being paid a lot of money by Konami, but still went over budget, and delayed the game a few times already.

"Kojima was too expensive apparently"

Kojima is perfectionist, but sometimes he is wasteful with resources. He allegedly had Harry Gregson Williams create a bunch of music, then Kojima decided not to use a bunch of them despite all the music composed was all paid for.

That was probably the business reason why he was fired. There were some pointlessly expensive things in Metal Gear Solid IV, such as,
those mock high production TV commercials that used Live Actors. You could only view those commercials when the game was installing.
