Does WiFi calling work overseas? ie, can you use your phone to make and receive calls from Canada via WiFi and not get billed extra charges?

Also, if you have a over seas sim card swapped into the phone, does that disable the WiFi calling? If so I guess you could travel with two phones if needed.

Nothing really to do with prepaid or postpaid. More to do with if you signed up for postpaid and got a new device that has a balance.

If on postpaid with no device balance or tab, you can also cancel anytime.

Thread Summary
No WiFi Calling on Koodo prepaid.
No call control.

and if it works on postpaid I do not think works with overseas. Freedom works. And even Fido I think.

You pay money (you can set up auto-pay to auto top up / pay for service every month).

You get service for 1 month.

Rinse, repeat.

Postpay plans are the opposite. Service for 1 month, bill, pay for that already delivered service. Rinse, repeat.

It's based on your area code, not where you live or what IP address you used.

I have an AB area code and live in Ottawa. I don't qualify for ON or Ottawa specific deals.

(But I pay less tax on my phone bill, because they tax based on area code).

Nope (in most cases). It's a very common misconception.

Postpay is: pay for 1 month of service ahead of time, get your service, and then pay for whatever you used OUTSIDE your plan (i.e. roaming charges, long distance, etc).

At least that's the case with MOST 'postpay' services. You're always paying for the next month of service, the 'post pay' simply gives you access to credit, i.e. you can use stuff without paying for it ahead of time.

For example, here's my latest bill, from March 7th:
Screenshot 2024-03-28 204522.png

Notice how it lists charges for Mar08-Apr07? Those charges are for the NEXT month (from the bill). Yes, they don't require payment that date, but in my case Koodo bills me 15 days from bill date, so I paid for my service on March 22nd.

I guess TECHNICALLY half of my service was 'post paid', but that's I'm sure NOT the distinction that most people would accept.

Hehe, yup, it's why my tablet plans are always with Alberta numbers, saves a buck or two a month.

Actually, Koodo postpaid bills for the next month in advance, taking the money 15 days after the billing date. So you get bill on March 31 for April and it's due mid-month.

To expand, it's not just Koodo that does this. MOST of my comm/entertainment 'post paid' bills are billed in advance like this. My ISPs bill like this, along with the other mobile carriers and even cable TV billed like this.

Also with prepaid Koodo if you need service in the US, you buy Data/voice/text booster add ons that do not expire until they are fully consumed. It's a great way to save the $15/day providers charge for postpaid service. Provided you are a light data user while you are in the states. 2gb is $25.

Actually, with the (limited) double data promo you can get 2GB of US data for $15. Snap it up!
Meanwhile 2GB Canada data (promo) is $30.. go figure.
