[Koodo] iPhone 12 64GB $368 upfront, $73/month 6GB Data Kodoo

just got off the phone with a rep(callback) after chat.

asked for iphone 12 $33(&change) tab $45(2gb plan)

promo 1: 120 bill credit on activation ($5 a month)
promo 2: activation credit $40
promo 3: they said old bonus data promo has expired, now we only have 4GB data bonus which you can get.
[credits]koodo bonus data thread koodo-koodo-4gb-5gb-add-free-2411114/

so
$368 upfront, $40 activation waived, $73/month for 6GB + iphone 12.
or
$368 upfront, $40 activation waived, $78/month for 8GB + iphone 12. if you get $50 plan instead of $45
2 year contract

not bad? warm? hot?

Put the storage amount of the phone in the title. Makes a difference in the value of the deal.

Honest question: if the total device price at the end of the 24 months doesn't come out to a device discount, what's the point of this? why not buy outright?
Is this only if someone can't afford the cost upfront?

Assuming it’s for a 64GB iPhone 12, I don’t think it’s that great of a deal. Koodo is selling the iPhone 12 64GB for $1160 whereas Apple sells it unlocked for $1129 so the $40 activation credit is really bring the cost of the 12 down to Apple’s price + $9 off.

The $5 monthly bill credits are $120 off over 2 years which is nice and I see that this deal is being offered on Koodo’s website. 6GB for $45/month is not that hot considering that many are paying $35-$40 for 11GB a month (6GB + 5GB add-on). However, a $45 plan allows you to use Tab Plus, which lets you amortize the phone over 2 years.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but just called Telus to get an update on my iPhone 12 pro (256gb) pre-order.

Was previously on the Epp 55$ 15gb peace of mind plan
With 34$ a month device cost per month with bring it back

Ended up switching to the promo plan 30gb for 63$

most likely, $1000+ for a smartphone outright is most likely not in anyone's budget. Especially right now. Probably more comfortable to pay it off over 2 years.

You can probably get a better byod plan and buy the phone outright at Apple.

1129 outright at apple vs 1160 over 2 years with koodo.

There shouldn’t be 64gb versions anymore imo. Min should be 128gb

Even those who cannot/don’t want to pay the full price upfront can still use Apple financing directly I think. So no need to get trapped in a contract with Koodo and lose freedom of moving plan to elsewhere or at least use the option to bargain when others have good deals.

They got rid of this a couple years ago, it is only available in the US iirc

Speak for yourself, if there was lower memory variants at reduced cost I would jump on it. I personally dont ever use over 32GB in any of my phones and never did... not to mention there is icloud and other cloud storages avail.

There is no deal at all. Basically you are financing the phone with Koodo instead of Apple Store. There is only deal if on the tap page it shows tab bonus of $xxx in saving.

Why would you buy an Iphone 12 and then go with a network that has no intention of supporting 5G. Wouldn't it make sense to be with Rogers/Bell/Telus?

You’re not getting a discount on the phone. What you’re getting is a contract with Koodo for 2 years in exchange for financing the phone at full price. I’m not sure if that’s a deal at all.

Did Koodo come out and say they won't be 5G? Will that be true for Fido and Virgin as well?
