Koodo offering an extra 5gb for $5? what is the catch?

i just got a text where koodo is offering to increase my data +5gb for an extra $5.

I'm a current koodo contract on a 6gb@$40+/month - it was one of those bribe contracts that they offered a year ago when they wanted to kick people off Public Mobile's 4gb@$40 prepaid plans. they ended up throwing stuff like voicemail, canadawide calling, and messaging in (dunno if that's bog standard for koodo). Do koodo offer promos like this just to get an extra $5/month, or can they change my rate plan somehow if i make a modification?

is there some sort of catch with this +5 offer here? asking because i'm suspicious of koodo bearing gifts.

There's no catch, they usually offer this to consumer(s) who regularly ran out or near their data allotment.

If you find yourself reaching that 6GB cap, then that offer would make sense as it would give you 5GB extra on top of the 6GB you have. If you’re averaging about 2-4 GB per month then it probably wouldn’t make sense unless you see yourself consuming more data in the near future.

is not a gift if you have to pay for it.

If they said free 5GB. Then you look if there is a catch or not.

You can take that add on offer and it will stay on your account as long as you don't remove it
even if you change plans, the add on stays.

not anymore... it states in the text that the addon could be removed on plan changes...

I took this offer yesterday... No catch...

I was planning on getting a new phone (HUP) depending on the deals for Black Friday. I wonder if they will let me keep the 5Go/5$ add-on.?

If its considered a plan renewal when doing an upgrade, then you will lose the addon

Quite the opposite... These offers are for people who don't come close to using up their data.

The catch is the extra data costs them virtually nothing.
