Koodo vs Virgin

So, I am looking to get my first phone and currently I am looking at Koodo and Virgin.

They both have $25 plans that look the same, and about what I want. They also both don't have system access fees etc.

So, which one should I go with or is there something better that I have missed?

i heard everytime you call into Koodo for anything, you're charged $10 or $15...

I think virgin is pretty good and their customer service is awesome.

only if you dont pass credit check... it is ALMOST impossible to fail virgin credit check. HOWEVER, they might put a $250 spending cap on your account. it will still allow you to activate... until your bill hit $250 on your account then i think they suspend it until you pay it off...

they'll take sin card or bank account for credit check.

rather then a security deposit (making you put a deposit of anywhere from $200 - $500), they have a spending cap. what that means if any time your bill hits $250, your account is suspended. What will cause you to hit the spending cap are; no bill payments, going over your airtime minutes, long distance calls etc.

hope that helps.

Thats only if you brought the phone outright, right?

no... a spending cap just stops your service if you hit it. it has nothing to do with buying the phone. if you buy the phone outright and go month to month, there may still be a spending cap (it's based on your credit)

BTW, virgin now charges $35 act fee...

The $25 plans look identical, but if you ever want to upgrade to a stronger plan,
I think that you would do better with Koodo. I am leaving Rogers, and will go with Koodo. I take the point about customer service, but I have been carrying a phone for 6 years and have never called customer service. Koodo is the budget wing of Telus, and Virgin is independent but runs on the Bell network.
