LA fitness vs Goodlife

I am in Oshawa. Does anyone have a comparative experience between Goodlife and LA fitness. I have used Goodlife in past and I have access to Goodlife corporate rates(35$ pm ) for their higher packages .

I did use planet fitness and fit4less. fit4less pissed me off during the pandemic as they continued to charge for 3 months even though i send a cancellation request and had no way to talk to anyone to get my money back.

I am looking at LA fitness as its closer to my home but could use some opinion on the differences they noticed..,

Go with the one that is closer to home if price is not that different.

Goodlife never again. We used to be members there, covid hit so we put our memberships on hold. Can't remember if that was at the end of the firs or second wave, but Goodlife reactivated our memberships without letting us know. We found out when looking at our online banking. Could be the process and the small prints at the end of the contract, however I found this unethical - at least I would have appreciated if they told us when we paused the membership.

Not saying all Goodlife locations are the same. Just sharing my own experience.

i had the same issue with fit4less and i could not even cancel it for 3 months as i could speak to no one and emails/messages to them did not get any response.
in addition, i could not book any slots as i was afraid of the pandemic. thats why i was looking at choices between goodlife and la fitness.
how much do la fitness membership go these days?

Both are know for bad services, scamming you when it comes to payment. You tell them, you want to pay one shot (one year), they will not agree they want month to month payment. That is the reason I joined YMCA. From the day pandemic started I have not step into any gym yet.

Goodlife is hit and miss, some are good some are bad. I like LA since there's a pool and a ball court if I feel like doing something else for cardio. You should check the amenities at the Goodlife you'd go to and compare, most LA Fitness gyms have the same amenities. Just keep in mind however I think they increased pricing after COVID.

I don't think L.A. Fitness bought anyone out.
Each location is generally laid out the same, while Good Life bought so many different Gyms that there's a heavy difference from location to location.
At one point Good Life was charging an extra premium (per visit) for some of their locations. (ie Union Station, Toronto) I am not sure if they still do.
All while L.A. fitness is one set price no matter which location you choose to work out at any time during your membership with them.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Goodlife has a price where if you only go to 1 specific location, there is a discount, you can only go to that location. Other than that, the other membership allows you access to any GL location, no premiums. There is no GL in Quebec but they have a deal with a Quebec chain so I was able to use my GL membership in Quebec, along with anywhere else in Canada. LA Fitness actually does charge more for premium locations like Yonge-Sheppard, they call it "signature" location, I have no idea whats different about those premium locations

The Yonge-Sheppard L.A. Fitness location is fairly new. You make a good point. Being new, maybe they found room for new ideas, being built from scratch?
I didn't notice anything special about the Union station Good life location when they were charging $10 extra per visit a few years ago.
I think they (Goodlife) stopped charging that extra fee in recent years though.

Yea, like I said, GL charges 1 price for access to all clubs now, there is no extra charge. You get a discount if you sign up for a membership that limits you to only 1 specific location.
There are only 2 LA Fitness in GTA that are classified as signature, you pay a little bit more but the price difference isn't much at all

LA has a good rate going on right now: $39.99 for multi club access and no initiation fee.

Seeing as this is now a 2021 Post-COVID thread, & I don't think we'll see gyms the same way again for a long, long time,

how are their health & safety protocols working out? I would usually take LA Fitness over Goodlife all day thanks to their basketball courts, but there's only like a dozen LA's for hundreds of Goodlife's.
