Laptop Recommendation

I've been looking to replace my aging Desktop PC that is now 10+ years old.

Initially I wanted an XPS 15 because i love the screen, build, etc.

Then I saw the Dell G15 Gaming Laptop deals recently, and thought I'd get better value with respect to higher specs, dedicated GPU, etc. compared to what I'd get for the XPS 15 at the same cost. Almost pulled the trigger today but i'm a little torn.

I really won't be gaming much outside of Tabletop Simulator, so I feel like getting a 3060 is really going to waste in a sense. I assume something like the new Intel Iris Xe Graphics should be fine as i hear integrated graphics are better these days

I also realistically won't travel too much with it, and mainly will be a desktop replacement so it doesn't need to be crazy thin/light.

Outside of Dell XPS, are there any other recommendations I should consider that won't be as expensive but meet the criteria below? Otherwise i was going to wait until black friday and look for a Dell XPS 15 with the below mentioned specs.

Ultimately would like:
- 15 inch
- i7
- 16GB RAM
- 512GB SSD (or 1 TB)
- Would like a nice quality screen for netflix/youtube watching around the house (OLED screen would be ideal, but not necessary, any high quality screen would be good)
- Thunderbolt 3/4 (I have a thunderbolt dock I'm using for my work laptop right now, and would love to have a single cable to switch between my dual monitor display from work laptop to home laptop)

That's about it. I'm not very familiar with popular laptop models these days outside of Dell XPS.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Im in the same boat OP.
Though I’m looking for something a bit more basic for the grand daughter that’s attending university this year, and don’t need anything really spectacular for that.
I can’t believe my eyes when reading reviews on 90% of the machines I look at that are near $1000, yet have mostly bad reviews, from battery life to total machine failure.
I haven’t purchased a laptop in many years, as I use a desktop and iPad for my needs.
Have laptops these days really gone to shit like people are reporting?
I really do want to go past the 1k mark on a laptop just for uni, but it’s looking like I may have to.

Have you considered one of the Inspiron models listed in this thread?

Also I see the batteries are integrated on Dell machines now.
That’s kind of a turn off too.
almost all laptops now the battery is inside the cover. you can still replace it but needs to remove the undercover to do so.

I'm kind of surprised to hear ahout the discouraging reviews. The $585 model has 4.3 stars on Dell's site and the comments I see on RFD are mostly positive.

Most laptops are like this now. Thankfully, the processors are much more efficient and there are LiFPO batteries so you no longer need honkin 12 cell battery to get decent runtime

Would still be nice to have swappable batteries though, either way the battery takes up space regardless if its internal or removable.
