Las Vegas in December?

Anyone visited LaS Vegas in December (either 2nd or 3rd week of December)? Good bargain or not as fun?

I randomly checked around and noticed that their Hotel are dirt cheap! $130CAD for Trump, and some 4 stars are $60-80 CAD!

I understand that it is getting chilling in LAS in December, pools are all closed, some shows are closed.
I read some reviews in TripAdvisor and some pick just this time of the year to go for less crowed everywhere and better bargain.

Cheap hotel rate is indeed very tempting. Flight which is under $400 is not as bad....(missed the $245 deal to SFO, lol)
Are all Hotel near the Strip charge Resort fee?

It depends what you're going to Vegas for. We've gone at least twice in December and enjoyed post-holiday shopping, good food and entertainment. I believe it was 2 years ago when it was especially chilly (for Vegas) with a daytime high of 10deg-ish. People were wearing Parkas and ear muffs and uggs, while we wore cardigans and capris. The strip would still be hopping which is what we go for. Love the Vegas energy. But if you're going for specific Shows, make sure they're not dark (not playing) while you're there.

Just google the ones without resort fees on the strip but pretty much all do. There should be good travel deals to be had that time of the year though. It won't be crowded but the strip certainly won't be empty. We went clubbing that December and it was great; clubs were full (we went club hopping) on a Thursday.

Just remember to add an additional $20-$35 USD for the resort fee on each of those. The Best Western Casino Royale does not have a resort fee - but it's far from a 4 star. If you're going during Sun-Thursday, TI has a "TV Offer" that waives the resort fee on their website

That said, "quiet" time in Vegas is still busy. Unless what you are going for is closed (as you mentioned: pools, certain shows, etc.) it is a great time to take advantage of the lower rates and escape our weather.

Will be in Vegas on Christmas Day with family from overseas.

I've never been to Vegas in December but my husband has. It's clearly not pool weather but overall pleasant temps during the day (will need a coat at night). Good weather for strolling the strip and some gambling/ shopping.

I wouldn't stay at the Trump it's not on the strip. We got a fabulous deal at Cosmo ($685 Usd) for 4 nights in a 1 bedroom terrace suite with fountain view. Venetian and Wynn were our second choices offering really great rates as well. Our family from overseas wanted Cosmo that's where we will end up.

We had good weather when we visited Las Vegas right before Christmas - really nice temperatures. Mostly got away with a sweater.

It was only cold when we left Vegas and were up at Bryce Canyon in Utah - we had snow and it was downright chilly.

Definitely do not stay at Trump. Very inconvenient to get anywhere.

Which 4 or 5 stars would you recommend? Bellagio and Caesar Palace is nice, but they remains at expensive range. although low season.

For Cirque du soleil, is it better to buy tickets now (online) or get it once got there for better deal?
Any deals or tips to score a better price for buffet in hotels?

Which Cirque show are you looking for? For example, O rarely comes on sale at Tix4Tonight so you would be better off buying in advance. Others, like says Mystere, are always on sale at Tix4Tonight (and other places).

My favourite mid range hotel is The Mirage.

Great location, nice rooms, great restaurants inside the hotel.

As long as you are aware that it's not warm in December. I was there 2nd week of December a few years back and it was about 5-7C during the day and went to 0C at night.
I wouldn't recommend Trump as it's away from everything. I think there are much better options closer to the "action".

When booking hotel rooms, use SmarterVegas. You'll need to sign up to view the deals (free), here are some examples of hotels on the strip (all prices exclude taxes and resort fees):
- New York New York $36/night (3-star)
- MGM Grand $48/night - comes with two free daily breakfast
- Aria $101/night (5-star) - comes with $100 dining credit

What's your main goal for this trip? That will also impact the location recommended.

As for Cirque, if there's something that's a must see, buy in advanced. Check the show schedule to see what shows are dark and what shows aren't and make your decision that way.

Yes. With perhaps the exception of Motel 6. The resort fees are ridiculous. You'd be better off getting in a rental car an venturing off into the natural wonders of nearby Arizona (For example the Grand Canyon).

If you don't have a show that's a "must see", just wait until you're there to see what's available from Tix4Tonight.

How's the weather in Grand Canyon in Mid-Dec.
Any hotel recommend to stay near by if I make a 4 hour road trip to Grand Canyon?
It is a bit tiring drive 4 hour there, then 4 hour back on the same day.

So generally, the ticket there is generally cheaper than getting it from the web site in advance (even it says special fall deal)
Thinking to see one of the Cirque shows,
