Patagonia is better on the whole, but it really depends on what you're looking for. For value, Columbia is pretty good, but I don't trust their materials. They don't usually use goretex (waterproof membranes) or high fill power down. Though, Columbia has a good waterproof membrane called "outdry" which is similar to goretex shakedry and gets decent reviews.

Colombia is similar to mountain warehouse in my opinion.

Mountain Hardwear (a sub brand of Columbia) however uses good materials that is a clear cut above Columbia. Sometimes you can find mountain hardwear stuff at the Colombia outlets if you have one around.
