Latest Win10 update broke my computer
Took an update last night. This morning, fan won't shut off. CPU is only using 3% of power. Now I have to go look for fixes. Hope you are having a better day than me...

It's running constantly and sounds like a vacuum cleaner. There is no way to cycle it down and it wasn't doing this BEFORE the update. Good way to burn out a moving part by having it run continuously until it fails...

Tried a bunch of fixes like altering the power settings but those don't work. Reinstalling the motherboard bios was one I haven't tried yet. It will power down now only if the computer is completely shut off or put into sleep mode. Otherwise it runs constantly which it wasn't doing BEFORE the update.

How would that help? The computer is running fine but the fan is running as if the CPU was under a heavy load. It isn't...Cheapo-Findo wrote: ↑ Safe mode?

But which fan? The CPU fan? There are other fans in a PC. I think fans are controlled by BIOS and not Windows. Please correct me if I am wrong. On my computers I can set fan speeds based on CPU load only in BIOS. I've never seen this option in Windows. Check your BIOS maybe?

Did you computer go into black screen to install the BIOS update after Windows update? I install BIOS updates on my kids Dell laptops using a Dell Update app. Windows never offers BIOS updates. After the Dell app updates the BIOS (by rebooting and going into a black screen), Windows offers something called BIOS+version number. But it's not the BIOS itself, it's some kind of Windows driver that interacts with the BIOS.
