Deals? Yeah sure ... for inferior brands.

The GOOD ONES being SOLD at the LCBOs or Duty Free Stores are WAY OVERPRICED ... scammers!

I saw one bottle of Macallan Estate Reserve ... priced at Pearson Duty Free for CAD$455.50 ... the same bottle in the Jamaica Duty Free was USD$260 ... why scam a difference of $110 a bottle??? Our government is a pure scammer! (This same bottle went for CAD$220 @ Taoyuan Duty Free ... )
Stress is caused by NOT fishing enough.
JDM ONLY! No North American CRAP!
Megabass, Imakatsu, Jackall, GanCraft, OSP, EverGreen, YGK, Toray, Sunline, Nories, Shimano, Daiwa RULES!
EVA Air Rocks ... Air Canada SUCKS!

Thanks OP. I think I’ll try and pick up the Crown Royal Bourbon Mash. I prefer bourbon in mixed drinks.

I'm quite certain your issue is with the duty free shops themselves. They indeed do not need to pay taxes and duties on the products they sell. If the prices are higher, it's because they're pocketing the extra. They're simply not passing on their savings to the consumer.

Thanks, OP! I've got my eye on the CR Bourbon Mash.

For any RFDers that aren't aware, Canadian Whiskey has had a huge increase in appreciation and awareness around the world, winning awards and receiving high marks from critics. E.g. here's a link to the prestigious Whisky Advocate Highest-Scoring International Whiskeys. Whiskey Advocate is owned by the same company as the Wine Advocate, which is a huge wine critic and credited with created the 100-point scoring system for wines. 3 out of the top 10 highest scoring whiskeys from around the world have Canadian roots. Mind you, all of these 'Canadian' companies are owned by larger international companies now :-(

I would take ratings from that magazine with a serious grain of salt, especially when it comes to Canadian whisky. Pretty much every Cdn whisky in that magazine is rated by Davin De Kergommeaux. If you don't know who that is, he is a published author of a book on the subject and he praises pretty much every new release of Cdn whisky with gushing praise. So he has a vested interest in the success of the industy, as he is basically considered it's only expert. Whisky geeks find him a joke.

Another thing about that magazine (which I have bought for years because I like the articles, not the reviews)... the scores are on a very very high scale. You will often see crappy blends getting scores like an 88. I don't take the scores all that seriously as everything scores at least an 80. Plus the reviews are often about whiskies that have full page advertisements in the magazine that season.

I have it. It's fine as a mix whiskey but I don't think I would consume it by itself.

No scam about it. Duty in Ontario is always around 50%. I was at the airport in Mexico last week and picked up a bottle of Glenfiddich 18 year old that sells at the LCBO for $180, and SAQ (Quebec) for $143 - for only $95.

Alcohol is a luxury item, therefore, government will always tax the crap out of it. It's just the way it is. It pays for hospitals, roads, etc.

Like you said, if you want a good deal, go Duty Free. For those of us that do not go often, we have to take what we get :)

I've analyzed both inventories, and it really depends on what kind of tastes you like and your budget.

Auchentoshan American Oak Single Malt Scotch Whisky 40% 750 mL $6.00 $50.95 11%

Have the above. Really spicy at the beginning but mellowed out after a couple times drinking it (or I just got used to it). But I would recommend!
You miss shots you don't take.
