Found the old one in a drawer and like the title says does anyone know if the lcd could be used for a retropi setup if gutted? If so perhaps what lcd controller to buy that would work before I waste my time opening it up.

Good question. I have an old Kobo Android tablet that I was going to sacrifice to make a Raspberry Pi but I haven't figured out what is required (too many projects, too little time).

The Le Pan and the Kobo probably use eDP, I would think. If not, they would use LVDS.

Here are hackaday articles that are tagged with eDP https://hackaday.com/tag/edp/

It seems that some parts of the open-source Adafruit Qualia project might be relevant https://www.adafruit.com/qualia
You could figure out from that what is needed to convert between eDP and DP. Then it is a short hop to HDMI.

Let us know if you make any progress.

there is also the popular hp touchpad too from way back which had a very nice 9-10inch screen. The lepan was a popular cheap tablet and the only info I could find was it was hyped as sharing the same display as the ipad2 or atleast its ratio and did run the same power adapter. If True? then it should be easy as many have cannibalized the old ipads for retropie. Plus the lepan tc970 and the hp and the old ipads ran the 4:3 aspect vs the 16:9 so they are kinda the perfect display ratio for most retro games.

I did grab an old ion icade way back for like 15 bucks as well so with an old rpi2 lying around this could be worth it.

Interesting. I've got an old Touchpad (with wireless charger) and a Pi 3 lying around. I love the idea of using them to build a little table top arcade. Time to add this to the list of projects I'll never get around to doing haha...

I also have two BB Playbooks that I'd love to find a use for along with a Nexus 7 with charging dock.
