its worse here.. builder cancels subdivision under company a1 returns deposit. two weeks later company a2 starts selling the same units.

Out in Alberta, in the last couple of months, some of the builders there has started inserting "Escalation Clause" in the Purchase and Sales Agreement. Essentially, this escalation clause allow builders to legally do what you have describe in the article, meaning increasing the price even after the deal turns firm.

Hilarious. I have seen a lot of “blame it on COVID” from builders. Shameful.
