HOW TO Update your CC information - the lego way....

I just talked with lego and apparently CS says that she doesn't know if updating you card # would automatically update your order CC info soooooo

call lego with your order # and give them your new card information including expiry date....

I had 5 orders and CS had to update each order one by one.... took a whole half hour including wait time.

Well, as an investor, would you buy a stock to hold for a longer period or wait a few months and buy it 20-30% lower with shorter holding period?

Before getting into Lego "investing", you should understand the costs, holding period, storage, exit strategies etc. first. If you expect to make quick/big money from this, you will be very disappointed.
It's not very scalable, it takes time to see real returns, it's very illiquid and can be time consuming to sell. Buying is the easiest part.
You don't get into Lego as an investor. You get into Lego investing as a result of your interest in Lego because that greatly limits your downside. Worse case, you got more sets to play with at cost.
That's what I tell my wife anyways when I buy too many sets, it's "investment". :D

Thank you for insight. I guess to rephrase my question, does lego ever get sold out before it goes on sale? Can I wait or do I need to buy a set

Depends on the set and when it was released. Some sets will go on sale throughout the year either randomly or part of the season (black friday, boxing day, etc.) however if its nearing the end of its production/shelf life then LEGO will typically have it on sale 10-20% off before retiring it permanently, at that point it can sell out quick. I believe sets stay on shelves for about 1-2 years before they retire but some can stay longer.

I can't think of too many examples of sets that got discontinued before having any discounts. Keep in mind, Rakuten has 10% CB all the time, combine with 5% VIP points and possibly GWP, you are going to get 20% off just buying at regular price. I bought Eiffel Tower at launch with 10% CB and 5% VIP and free set.

The rule of thumb is, most sets are around for two years, and usually you will see sales in the 2nd year. Some lingers, like the VW Camper (original) that was around for like 5 years while some of the earlier Lego Idea sets were gone within a year after the batch was sold. The Old Fishing Store is one example, it wasn't around for long but even that I was able to get it on discount, should have bought more. On the other hand, the Grand Piano seems to be sticking around a bit longer than usual for an Idea set and went up in price post launch (not part of the overall price adjustment Lego did late last year).

Overall, you should get able to wait and get at least 15% off (CB + VIP) on most sets before they retire. Just have to wait and act fast. I bought like $2K worth of Lego while on the train at 6am :D. Wife was not impressed.

The original VW Camper was actually around for nine years but that is very unusual. Another outlier is Assembly Square which is now six years old.

Do you know when they offered 10% cash back last year? I only recall the 10% being available during Black Friday and Boxing day.

To those whose credit card information has expired.... like mine last year and a new credit card with a new expiration date was issued... but my order is still on the old CC expiration date.... and I got worried.....

TLDR - the *quick&easy* way:
Call Lego with the original order number and let them know your new card expiration date!
Took me 2 minutes to do before the last round was shipped. Didn't have any issues with receiving the set.

mine took half hour because I had 5 orders and each order CS had to re-enter my CC# including the billing address.... so archaic.... but now it is done....

Thanks....

Fastest and safest way is PayPal... I generally don't like saving or inputting my CC on retailer sites.

Pretty sure there was a 17% instance for Lego on Rakuten last year.

Edit: My bad, it was 13% in March of last year.

13% cashback is pretty sweet. I hope they do it again this year.

Another GWP in February, 40582 4×4 Ambulance Off Roader

It is hard to decide in these two GWP with the limited budget this month. Which one should I get? The Ambulance or the Moving Truck?

Wow! The Moving Truck GWP is quite nice, but I'm not loving the shaping of the truck. I also don't like the female minifig with the depressed/anxiety face... she seems like she really can't do the job lol... LEGO and their gender quotas tho.... :P

My first reaction to that ambulance was "Wow! What a detailed and badass-looking cheap set for CITY!" Then I just realized this will be a free GWP! That's awesome. I like colors, the rugged look of the vehicle, and it kind of gives me vibes of the old RES-Q theme of the 90s in a way.

Now am I going to buy like $200 worth of LEGO to get that awesome CITY GWP? Still no... I will probably try and get in on Kijiji from a seller who doesn't give a crap about the CITY theme and will probably under value it a bit. ;P If someone sold it for $15-20, I would jump on it fo sho. I also think the set comes with some nice pieces to potentially make an alternate build or two, so I will get many hours of fun out of this little box.
