[Lenovo Canada] Lenovo: 15% Off All ThinkPads ($509 T6570 SL400/500 Again!) OR 25% Off $1500+ (Hot!)

Lenovo has brought back the promotion(s) many of you have been waiting for, and then some!

With coupon code CAPLONGWEEKEND, you can save 15% on all ThinkPads or, if you are spending $1500+, get 25% off. This includes the SL series, and even the new T400s!

The coupon is valid through August 3.

This sale does NOT include:
IdeaPad S10 (more on that one later...)
Lenovo G Series
ThinkCentre desktops
ThinkStation workstations
Accessories

Now, here are a couple of sample configs:

ThinkPad SL400 or SL500
  • Intel Core 2 Duo processor T6570 (2.1GHz 800MHz 2MBL2) (manually selected)
  • Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic
  • 14.1" WXGA LED VibrantView
  • Intel GMA X4500
  • 2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 (2 DIMM)
  • UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
  • 160GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
  • CD-RW/DVD-ROM, Fixed
  • ThinkPad 11b/g III Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe
  • 6 cell Li-Ion Battery (2.4Ah)
  • 1 Year Depot/Express Warranty
Price after coupon: $509.15
Price with a P8600 Processor: $615.40

ThinkPad T400s
  • Intel Core 2 Duo SP9400 processor (2.40GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2)
  • Genuine Windows XP Professional (via downgrade rights from Windows Vista Business)
  • T400s 14.1WXGA+ LED B/L
  • Intel GMA 4500MH
  • 2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 (1 DIMM)8
  • 120GB Hard Disk drive, 5400rpm 1.8" Low Halogen
  • DVD Recordable, Ultrabay Slim
  • T400s 6 cell Prismatic Battery
  • Intel WiFi Link 5100
  • 1 Year Depot/Express Warranty
Price after coupon: $1499.25

Upgrades get the % discount as well. Shipping is free for all items.

The SL400 and SL500 are once again priced to move. $509.15 for 14" or 15" laptop with a very capable Core 2 Duo processor, LED Display, and reasonable specs is a hot price. If you want a fast processor, it only moves up to $615 for a P8600 -- still hot!

For those of you that have been targetting the higher end models (like the T series, X series, or Tablet), the 25% off $1500+ discount is back, and now includes the ThinkPad T400s. The T400s now feature the Core 2 Duo SP processors, and with the coupon, you can get the price down to $1499.25. Prior to this, it was $1781.10 for a T400s with the slower SL Low voltage processors!

If you want to do a bit more reading about the SL series or the T400s, you may want to check these out:

SL500 Review at NotebookReview.com - cites "fantastic heat dissipation", "modern business design", and "ThinkPad quality without ThinkPad prices"
T400s review at NotebookReview.com - cites "Excellent build quality", "Good keyboard changes" and "nice polished design" (keep in mind this is a 14.1" with good performance that weighs under 4lbs)

I'm interested in a T400 and have a couple of queries about upgrades:

1. Which media card slots are included in "Express Card & Media Card Slots [add $10.00]"? Is this the same as "Express Card Slot & 7-1 Media Card Reader [add $10.00]" listed on Lenovo USA, and which includes SD, SDHC, XD, MMC, Memory Stick, and Memory Stick Pro?

2. I'm trying to weigh the merits of two HD upgrades: "320GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm [add $80.00]" versus "250GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm w/ FDE [add $85.00]". Would the faster drive produce a tangible performance boost and would there be a power consumption penalty associated with it?

Thanks Andrew. Looks like a good deal.

Ordered the SL400 with P8600 processor upgrade. In case anyone misses this, the Camera option ( Integrated Camera Module 0.3MP [$0.00] ) is a free upgrade.

Came out to $695.40 after taxes.

Thanks andrew hot deal
Anyone know about the hackintoshability of these laptops?

Don't need to hear a mac vs pc debate

I'm asking because I'm wondering whether to buy a hackintosh laptop or upgrade my desktop into a i7 core macpc which is doable

So if anyone knows about this it'll be appreciated. Need mac for the apple iPhone sdk

It's a real pain to sort everything out. From what i know, the new intel chipsets aren't supported at all (the 4500), since apple they switched to nvidia.

SL is way better deal. The notebook linked is a Lenovo consumer line, not Lenovo Thinkpad.

edit: WOW they really jacked the prices on the X-series up. Cold for x-series holy.. I was gonna finally seriously consider picking up an X200s up too..

Thanks Lenovo for making the decision easy.

I'm trying to figure this out myself as well.

Things I've noticed so far:

1) SL doesn't have the roll cage that a T Series has
2) SL starts at 5.5lbs where as T series starts at 4.9lbs

Anyone else got any more details/input?

I would say so.. Personally I'd suggest to go for 14" just for slightly better battery life and portability.. unless you mostly plan to keep it stationary. Purely a preference choice though.

I like 12" notebooks.. or else I'd definitely pick up a T400 or SL400.

I *think* the SL series has a HDMI port while the T series do not.
