[Lenovo Canada] Legion 7 & 7i: AMD R7 5800H or Intel i7-11800H, RTX 3070, 16GB, 1TB - $1,884 (25-27% discounts + Rakuten cashback)

January 10th UPDATE: The "DECEMBERCTODEALS" code has finally expired as well so this deal has officially run its course. I'll be expiring this thread today as a result after 60 days... wow. I'm happy that many have received their Legions and most have found them to their liking to date. My family certainly has. Hopefully this thread can live on for a while in support of all you Legion owners who can still pitch in and help each other as well as give any good tips or ideas for these great laptops. I know I still will.

All the best to all of you!

Original post:
The Legion 7 and 7i are one of the most highly rated, if not the best, gaming laptops on the market today by most accounts and reviews. At $1,883.57 before taxes, after rebates for the Ryzen 7/3070 configuration, the entire Legion line is currently on a good sale. These gaming/media editing/engineering laptops are extremely well built with full powered, vapour chamber cooled 45+ watt CPU and 140 watt MUX'd dGPU on the 3070 (as well as Hybrid/Optimus iGPU), an excellent 16", 16:10 aspect ratio, 165Hz refresh, G-Sync (Hybrid off) & FreeSync (Hybrid On), 1600p QHD+, 500 nits colour accurate (100% sRGB) pre-calibrated displays that come in a rigid, all aluminum chassis with smooth glass trackpad, per-key RGB & individually addressable case RGB LEDs, understated lid design, 7 hour battery runtime on AMD (4 hours on Intel) and more.

AMD Legion 7 or Intel Legion 7i:
I'd recommend the least expensive equivalent build available at your time of purchase since these are so similar in actual performance, but keep this in mind:
  • Choose AMD if battery life matters to you or you'll ever need more than 4 hours of runtime (7-8 hrs vs 3-4 on Intel).
  • Choose Intel if Thunderbolt peripherals matter to you or if you want a slight performance advantage, cooler CPU temperatures or PCIe v4 storage support (on 1 of 2 slots).

Rakuten - $5 signup bonus

IF YOU PURCHASE THIS LAPTOP, DON'T FORGET TO USE THE FOLLOWING RAKUTEN LINK TO START YOUR PURCHASE OR YOU WON'T QUALIFY FOR CASHBACK:

Then search for "Legion 7" or "Legion 7i" once Rakuten loads the Lenovo site, then choose the Legion 7 Gen 6 OR Legion 7i Gen 6 and start the custom build to add the 1TB SSD and GTX 3070 (or whatever configuration you desire - see below). During checkout, the 17% off DECEMBERCTODEALS coupon code should automatically be applied and you should replace it with LEGIONDEALS20 to see which gives you the best discount.

Note from Elrondolio: I'd suggest ignoring any recommendation for a gaming laptop that doesn't have a built in Mux switch, like the Scar Strix 17 from the above recommendation list. Any gaming laptop in 2021 should have a Mux switch at the least, for up to 30% increase in performance, depending on game.

I didn't see the thread for Legion 7 laptops.. I assume you mean the Legion 5 Pro thread? If so, thanks... hadn't opened it yet as I wanted to post this before it expired in a few hours. For those unaware: the Legion 5 Pro is the downscale version of the Legion 7: both provide excellent performance but the Legion 5 Pro is a worse quality build with lesser cooling capabilities (heat pipes and partial plastic build with a terrible plastic touchpad, zone RGB instead of per-key RGB, etc).

The AMD version of the Legion 7 has much better battery life of around an extra 3-4 hours (I average around 7 hours on my 5800H, 3070 builds and around 6.5 hrs on my 5900HX, 3080 build). The Intel version is slightly less power effecient but runs somewhat cooler and can be undervolted which is a nice bonus. It also has faster storage thanks to PCIe 4 but in real world it doesn't help much. In the distant future when Microsoft releases DirectStorage and game developers have integrated it and released new games (or re-released old games) to support it this may make a difference, but its hard to tell.

So basically, if you want better battery life: go AMD.
If you want cooler running and the possibility of future storage speeds: go Intel.

Otherwise they are pretty much identical.

Better to go to rakuten and click on Lenovo 11% link. I lost so many referral because rfd affiliate links.

From Lenovo search bar type legion 7i select the customizable one.

Pick
- 1tb ssd
- 3070 GPU

At check out put the LEGIONDEALS20 and enter your id.me account. Should come out to $2090 + HST.

I had the same problem when I copy and pasted the coupon. I had an extra space after 20 that caused the error.

EDIT:
I went with part no: 82JQ00FFUS instead because it has the same or similar specs but for an extra $59, I get 2TB instead of 1TB.

My price difference was just after the LEGIONDEALS20 discount for the laptop alone, not including Student discount or Rakuten cash back ($2,219.40 - $2,159.99).

Is this still on? Or just Nov 11?
I still have my Y740 with RTX 2060 from last RFD deal. Wonder how much I could get on Kijiji for it...

I picked up a 3080 from Bestbuy for close to 2000$ after tax...just need a mobo and CPU to complete the build....but this laptop just under the cost of the GPU itself.

This is a great price - if I was an avid gamer I would probably pick it up/upgrade, but I'll pass. I am using a Y540 with the 2060 from a past RFD deal and it still flies for the 1-2 games I actually play...

This is a fantastic deal but I'm tempted to wait for the mini Led version as well. I wasn't blown away with this Legion 7s 16 color reproduction, even though it was good.

For comparison the Alienware x17, Asus s17, and m16 all had better looking screens. For this price point I expect the best and hopefully the mini Led version comes with the rumored 3080ti mobile as well. One thing I did love about the Legion 7 was the 16:10 aspect ratio and its hard going back once you've experienced it.

The desktop 3080 is far ahead of this mobile 3070. However, this laptop is quite a nice package. I have the legion 5 pro with the same CPU & GPU and screen, the combo is quite capable. The only draw back I'd say is gaming from a laptop can be really loud and there's not much you can do about it other than wearing a headphone. I wear my airpods pro, works perfecly.
