[Lenovo Canada] Legion Y540 81SX000LUS $1,470 i7-9750H 16GB RAM 1660Ti 6gb 144HZ screen 1TB SSD PCIe Pax South Deal

Hello everyone,

I found this deal on the Lenovo website that seemed to be a good price for this laptop and its specifications. It is the Legion Y540 15 inch laptop which has a part number of 81SX000LUS selling for $1,470 before tax. I believe there is an option to apply a student discount of -5% to reduce the price further.

https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/le ... 81SX000LUS

Its specifications are:
-16GB RAM 2666MHz DDR4 (2 x 8GB)
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti Graphics Card 6gb
-144Hz screen 300 nits

It's apparent regular price is $2,109.99, and after a deal and the application of the code/eCoupon "PAXSOUTH2020", the price is reduced to $1470 before tax.

I wanted to know if this is a good time to purchase it. It seems to be a good price compared to similar laptop models in terms of hardware. I was wondering whether to get this now or to wait for the Acer Predator Helios 300 to go on sale (which is about $1700 on Amazon Canada right now) which has very comparable harware specifications but supposedly performs better than this model. Some had said that tuning/modifying the laptop by undervolting the processor of the Y540 helps reduce the difference in performance but I am not 100% sure.

Judging based on historic deals, this is meh at best because of the included SSD size and 16GB.

I think the lowest a Y540 15" got to was around Black Friday for a hair above $1200.
It may have had something like 8GB and 256GB, but nearly $300 can buy you a much better/bigger SSD and more RAM.

Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.
