[Lenovo Canada] Lenovo Legion 5 17" AMD Ryzen starts from 1199.99, updated deal link

I've been waiting for this on sale for months.
the 1199.99 starting price is for a Ryzen 5 CPU, but since it's customizable you can choose Ryzen 7 4800 and the price already includes the 2060 GPU

The default ram is small 8G and storage is 256G, I kept them that way and wait for any possible deals during the holiday season for a cheaper upgrade. (Lenovo upgrade costs 80 for ram and 170 for 1T)

NOTE: the default screen is 60Hz, and the 144 Hz screen is optional and don't forget to change the selection if you don't want to end up with a 60Hz screen.

only con is the shipping time is "more than five weeks", don't really know the real shipping time anyway.

currently the cash back rate on rakuten is 7%, don't know if it will work or not.

UPDATE: 11 - DEC

EDIT: the original link of the deal days ago, and please refer to the #69 post by @SkyLake1
or click here to the post.
The new deal link under perkopolisca, and you may not be able to get rakuten cashback I guess.

NOTE: the expected shipping is more than 5 weeks !!

This is hot imo.

For 1467 pre-tax (without counting Rakuten) you get a 4800hs/512ssd/16gbram/rtx2060/144hz screen.

7% Rakuten is 102.69 on top too

Exactly, I've been tracking the price daily for almost 2 months, lol. The cheapest was 1600, but that was the non customizable model and it never had any stock, lol.

The PSREF states max 16GB DDR4 offering. Does this mean that's the highest amount I can put into the two SODIMM slots, or thats just the max amount Lenovo offers as a build? Can I throw in 32GB or even 64GB on my own?

On their website it says upto 16g, but I found on reddit that people put 32g in it and it works just fine.

$1548 with 1 TB/16GB/144Hz - Rakuten (108.41) - $1440, not bad.

Pre-Black Friday my budget was $1000. After that it became $1100. $1100 crept up to $1300. And I just spent $1600+ with tax included (not counting Rakuten). My last RFD laptop purchase is as old as my marriage at 8 years so I might as well splurge right? The kids will just get less gifts lol.

i am in this exact situation! it's like for a little bit more the specs are better, then a little bit more you get something thats future-proof, then if you're going to pay that much, might as well pay a little bit more to get the extras...

i initially started with looking at gaming desktop, and it has now evolved into a laptop instead

The 17 inch model seems to have more QC issues than the 15 inch. Just an FYI, be extra careful when unboxing and inspect closely

Any things in particular to look out for? Any links I can read up on these QC issues? Thanks.

Thanks OP! I get better value with this deal than the 15" ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 purchase I had back in October from Best Buy. Paid $1,599.99 plus tax.

So with all the selected upgrades your deal is cheaper and I get more bang for my buck.

AMD Ryen 7 4800H
16GB
1TB and 512GB HDD
Wi-Fi 6
RTX 2060
17.3" FHD 144Hz

Also includes a built-in webcam whereas I had to buy one for $69 with my current laptop.

$1,533.75

Too bad there's no deal on the Legion 5 15"... 9lbs-10lbs with the power brick is pretty heavy to carry around... but definitely a powerhouse.

Thanks OP!

The ships more than 5 weeks really sucks. I think I'd rather hold off until boxing day to see what else is on the market.

That exact build has been around $1300-1350 on Amazon for 3 months now.

It pops up for about $1200 in the warehouse too

Can't find proof of that anywhere - I feel like if that were true it would've been posted somewhere.
The 15 inch sure I've seen a million sales - the 17 I can't find any prior sales posted here or anywhere

This should last me at least 3 years. Hopefully for another 5+ years. I considered the Asus deal with the RTX 2060 with slow Ryzen - left me wanting more and I didn't want to downgrade the RTX 2060. This fits the bill but with all the upgrades it costs a few hundred more. My justification is that I will also be using it for CAD and basic video and photo editing work.

I considered a desktop too but I rarely upgrade my computers. By the time I consider it, it's almost worthwhile to just buy a new one. Being able to move around your computer is convenient as well.

Is it shipping damage or bad build quality to look out for? I will keep this in mind when I receive it.
