It was, but y740 has much better build quality, gsync and 15 inch. Let's wait for a price error on it!

Also, the problem is NOT this is not a decent deal, it's such a huge YMMV on the deal.

It is better to get ONE 16G ram instead of TWO 8G as ONE 16G which allows you to do some upgrade without losing anything.

It is better to not to get the 1TB SSD from lenovo, as you dont know what model do they get, some SSD from OEM are just bad... better to negotiate for something else than SSD. the Samsung 970 plus 1TB was 200-ish a while ago...

build quality wise, 740 is better
thermal cooling wise, I THINK 740 and 540 are the same...

Hmm looks like they refreshed the lineup. The Y740 is a better build quality so it won't be the same as the Y540.

Some noteworthy improvements.

1) Camera was moved to the top instead of the bottom of the screen. No more nose-cam
2) Changed from the 8750H to the 9750H, although I don't know if that will make for a meaningful difference.
3) This screen is 500 nits rather than 300 nits like the Y540 and the first gen Y740. Makes big difference if you work in brighter environments.

This isn't exactly a deal however, I would probably wait until the middle/ending of august when the back to school sales happen.

Also if you have time I would probably wait until Nvidia releases the new super cards, you might see price drops in the 2060's which could drive the cost down. With a 144hz G-Sync Screen it would be nice to have a better card.

Since this is RFD however, this post wouldn't be complete without reminding people that the Y540 had a price error and using your time machine is a better deal.

I dont agree that the Y540 was a price error since it lasts a couple of days without massive order cancels. That was a better deal.

Speaking of Y540 and time machines, I noticed that the base y540 at 1419$ comes with a surprise 128Gb SSD. The main page shows a 1Tb drive but when you do customize the 128Gb SSD is included.

Cart specs when adding through customize:

Operating System : Windows 10 Home 64
Preload Language : Windows 10 Home 64 English
Microsoft Office : None
Total Memory : 8GB DDR4 2666MHz
First Hard Drive : 1TB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
Second Hard Drive : 128GB Solid State Drive, M.2, PCIe-NVMe
Display : 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) 250 nits, IPS, anti-glare, 60Hz
Graphic Card : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB
Color : Black
Keyboard : Backlit Keyboard - US English
Camera : 720p HD camera with microphone
Surface Treatment : Texture Painting
Chipset : HM370
Palmrest : PC/ABS
Battery : 3 Cell Li-Polymer, 57Wh
Power Adapter : 230W AC Adapter (3pin)-US
WiFi Wireless LAN Adapters : 802.11 AC (2 x 2) & Bluetooth® 4.1

Comparing to the Y540 deal, this one is not worth the extra pay.

Yeah, that wouldn't make sense because that would mean it's an entire chassis redesign, aka, a new model altogether.

If you call 12 hours as "couple of days", sure.

It was 100% price error.
