These Lenovo thinkpad are so special? Besides the red dot, what makes them sooooi expensive? I see the configuration are usually not attractive at the specific price.

Thinkpads in particular are considered durable professional laptops, highly customizable, typically can be upgraded and repaired by the user. Lenovo has above average customer and technical support. There is a huge user support structure worldwide. Build quality is considered among the best in the business although in my opinion has been going downhill over the last several years. But that is also true for competitors like Dell. IMO, since taking over from IBM, Lenovo has gradually transitioned itself from a truly professional computer company to a prosumer one.

The main things are build quality and the best keyboard in all laptops. Also there are premium ones (X1C6, X1 Extreme) vs more mainstream and affordable ones (T480, X280) for different price ranges.

Quote from the x1 carbon page
Like all ThinkPads, the X1 Carbon is tested against 12 military-grade requirements and more than 200 quality checks to ensure they run in extreme conditions. With a chassis constructed of four layers of reinforced carbon fiber and a magnesium alloy roll-cage for added strength, you’ll trust this laptop to handle whatever life throws your way.

You mean the base model @ $1200? That's almost 50% off. I guess I'll keep an eye on this thread for it to hit that price. It was 30% ($1382) + 12% ebates which got pretty close.

Yep, the retail is 1975 so its like 39% off but obvi nobody would buy at 1975. IMHO 1200 is ok deal and anything under would be a great deal.

Cool. What's the best price on the HyperX pair right now?

I have a question guys.

Is it safe to have a USB dock/hub with 100W Power delivery plugged in to the X1E at the same time it's charging with its 135W plug?

I'm looking at docks/hubs but they all seem to have power delivery features, and I want to make sure that nothing goes wrong.
I ordered and cancelled that TB3 dock because it was so expensive (almost $300).

It'll be fine. It'll prioritize the main power (Fast charge) plug first.
That said anything could change with a future update. I've noticed a lot of bugs in the BIOS and software with the X1E, Lenovo has been pretty good at fixing them but they also introduce new ones.

new x1 carbon has a smaller battery + better sound (subwoofer added???) + up to 4k display. 6th gen looks like a better buy if you don't need the sound upgrade.

This is currently the price on the consumer side +6% EBates. How does this compare to usual Lenovo sales?

EDIT: Forgot to mention this is fully loaded 16GB 1TB SSD Dolby Vision Screen.
The past sales were 30 to 35% off. The best deal was 35% off with 12% ebates but it was only one day.

I'm watching this thread for when someone sees the 35% + 12% ebates for a Carbon X1!
