Is this a really good deal or just an ok deal? If I have time, should wait for the AMD powered ones?

This is a 2 generation old cpu, so this is old stock. It's an ok deal since the business laptops are expensive, but this isn't top of the line even for intel. It should be relatively well built and the screen sounds nice.

It's a good deal, but since we're on 10th generation all these 8th gen CPU's are significantly slower than their 10th generation brothers.

I keep my laptops for a LONG time like 8 years was my shortest, so I always get a good model with good specs. Waiting for the new AMDS or the 10th gens to go on sale

Seems a good deal. We need to use the coupon code they provide to be able to get this discount. Is it also possible to get more discount with this email signup bonus? Looks like can't use two coupons.

This is a good deal for a T-series Thinkpad, which is a business laptop. The strong points of T-series Thinkpad are build quality, durability, ruggedness, plenty of ports, great keyboard, and security and privacy features.

What makes this one a good deal is the display, in addition to reasonable amount of RAM and SSD. A T-series Thinkpad below $1300 usually comes with 250 nit display, which is not good at all. This one has 400-nit low-power display.

The CPU is definitely old. But with 16G RAM, it should be able to work quite well except gaming.

Thanks for the feedback. I use T470 at work with 8GB ram. It struggles when I'm running heavy programs, but I think it's mainly because of the ram.

But I love the form factor. It's a nice laptop. Looks classy too.

I guess I'll wait for the AMD. I keep my laptop for 10 years too, so it makes sense to get top of the line. It would be nice to get 32 GB of ram too.

RAM should be upgradable. The spec sheet says it has a slot for additional RAM.

AMD powered vs intel is purely individual preference as there are pros and cons to both. As for the T14 over T495, not sure why you'd wanna spend the extra cash for an incremental CPU update?

This T490 is a great machine, though a definate downgrade from the T480 as most previously upgradable bits are now soldered on board, incl the wifi/bt module rendering them un-upgradable. The CPU comments above albeit true (2 gen old) but if you understand that you're not about to do any gaming on an integrated video card, you're gonna be hard pressed to see this laptop struggle with running anything else including 4k video and photo editing. Maybe if you're into super high end CAD or photo post processing, but then you'd clearly be running hardware intended for that task and it surely is expected to cost far more than $1k. The focus of this series of laptop is sleek for factor with excellent battery.... And it does it well.

My T480s routinely lands me 12-14 hrs work time with the stock 57 wHr liPo battery after i installed the low power 400 nit screen. The 250 nit, 4k or touch versions of any of these screens will yield you far less battery life.

Bottom line is if you're looking for a thin/light business grade laptop with a phenomenal screen, this is a great value at $1,100.

According to Crucial site, this can be upgraded to 48GB RAM using a 32GB SO-DIMM in the available slot!

Good deal.
Seems to be 16GB RAM + empty slot, decent screen.
Perkopolis price is only about $5 lower, so this deal is better if you stack it with cash back and student pricing

Best time to buy is Black Friday, even customer service told me the last time I made a mistake and bought too early.

I wouldn’t mind seeing some AMD powered thinkpads.
