Hum...I have my own W10Pro license...and have been considering the Framework laptop. The X1C9 is tempting...but soldered RAM is rather off-putting, IMO.

Dell XPS 13 i7 with significantly better iGPU, could probably be configured for around the same price.

Not bad. I'm debating between this and the XPS 13 2/1 with the same specs. Not sure the big difference.

For what it's worth, I'm currently using (100% management work) the previous generation (8th) and love it... Although my personal computer is the X1 Yoga, and like it more (if you're not constantly traveling, as the additional weight is noticeable).

It's not the same XE chip?

forgot to mention
currently I have a T490s as personal computer and my work has a dell precision 5530 (xps 15 basically)
i have to say the thinkpad keyboard is still better than the dell, even though the latest gen has been nerfed a lot

Other than keyboard, other things that draw me to X1C vs xps 13
full size USB A port
full size HDMI port
screen real estate (14" 16:10 vs 13.3" 16:9)

@chatbox the soldered ram in it is a LPDDR4X 4266 vs framework DDR4 3200 stick... I am not sure if there is even going to be SO-DIMM ram that goes faster than that. If u are worried about 16G u can actually configure with 32GB and i7 for around 2k

Ordered a new XPS 13 2 in 1 yesterday.

11th Generation Intel® CoreTM i7-1165G7 Processor (12MB Cache, up to 4.7 GHz)
16GB 4267MHz LPDDR4x Memory Onboard
Intel® Iris Xe Graphics
512GB PCIe NVMe x4 Solid State Drive Onboard
13.4" 16:10 FHD+ WLED Touch Display (1920 x 1200) 500nit

List $2,049.99
- $200 Dell discount
- $185 Unidays discount
- $249.75 15% Rakuten
+ $216.45 Taxes (ON)

= ~$1630

Thought it was the best buy for me although ideally I was looking for a 14". Right now with 15% Rakuten it's often a better route then Perkopolis. Unless you can somehow get both.

I would expect that there would be a battery hit.

I am debating between x1c Gen 9 and xps 13 2021.
One advantage of x1c is the much longer batter life and more lighter.

Xps on the other hand is much more cheaper to configure.

Edit:
Anyone find that with perkopolis you cannot add extended warrsnty
Venngo let's you add more warranty

Thanks OP. That's a great price and discount with Perkapolis. I wish it allowed to stack the discount with Rakuten. I tried with agent for over 1/2 hour to check out but it was wasted efforts due to glitch on site when I am signed with Perkopolis.
Frustated with experience, I ended up ordering Dell XPS.
Lemovo Yoga seemed to be interesting but don't know how heavy it will be for the kid.

heads up. I read many comments complaining that this did not meet expectations of previous carbon fans. but they were probably just being picky. I know they reduced key travel on this one.

Specs seem ok.. g15 is better performance but I only plan on using it for work (internet, large excelfiles, dozens of tabs)

Should I get this instead

The Dell G15 is a gaming laptop. This is a business laptop and should have better build quality. They are not comparable in my opinion.

The G15 is twice the weight of this ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9

Decent price. I wish there was a way to get a decent discount on the custom-built option as I want to add WWAN to the laptop. None of the pre-built models have it.

Key travel is the same at 1.5mm, but the key caps aren't as tall. It still remains the best keyboard on the market.

If people buy Dell, that is on them. I would never buy anything without a real TrackPoint, but I am old and cranky.

So yes, either this or the X1E4. I went with the X1E4.
